Description

There's never been a better time to set new habits. This book will change your life.
Why do we do develop habits? And how can we change them?
We can always change. In The Power of Habit, award-winning New York Times business reporter Charles Duhigg translates cutting-edge behavioural science into practical self-improvement action, distilling advanced neuroscience into fascinating narratives of transformation.
Why can some people and companies change overnight and some stay stuck in their old ruts? The answer lies deep in the human brain, and The Power of Habits reveals the secret pressure points that can change a life. From Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps to Martin Luther King Jr., from the CEO of Starbucks to the locker rooms of the NFL, Duhigg explores the incredible results of keystone habits and how they can make all the difference between billions and millions, failure and success – or even life and death.
The Power of Habit makes an exhilarating case: the key to almost any door in life is instilling the right habit. From exercise to weight loss, child-rearing to productivity, market disruption to social revolution and above all success, the right habits can change everything.
Habits aren't destiny. They’re science, one which can transform our businesses, our communities and our lives.

Easy to listen to but very poor content
2 hours in and I have yet to learn something of value. The book is basically a series of examples of individuals with bad habits and how they overcome them. But the mechanism behind habits is not very well explained/very poor. I would recommend the book of Kelly McKonigal - The WillPower Instinct- which offers a much deeper insight on the world of habits, willpower and self control which are all linked. The book offers exercices to try and summary at the end of each chapter to remember the big idea.

Interesting
The frame of the book is easy to follow. However, I feel it a bit strange to have so many histories to illustrate the facts. it's like a few cases are used to say general truth. but it might be the way I felt it and still the facts were science based enough

Interesting won't change your life though :-)
Interesting human stories and anecdotes, good and accessible summary of the research status in the field. But changing habits is still something science can't always help and the book makes it clear: the attempt is the framework provided at the end of the book that is interesting but not easy to put in practice.

interesting but too long
interesting aspects about memory and habits but there are too many concrete examples which are the biggest part of the book
