    Description

A revised and updated edition of the acclaimed Wall Street Journal best seller that explores why some leaders drain capability and intelligence from their teams while others amplify it to produce better results.

We've all had experiences with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drain intelligence, energy, and capability from the people around them and always need to be the smartest people in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them. When these leaders walk into a room, lightbulbs go off over people's heads; ideas flow, and problems get solved. These are the leaders who inspire employees to stretch themselves to deliver results that surpass expectations. These are the Multipliers. And the world needs more of them - especially now, when leaders are expected to do more with less.

In this engaging and highly practical book, leadership expert Liz Wiseman explores these two leadership styles, persuasively showing how Multipliers can have a resoundingly positive and profitable effect on organizations - getting more done with fewer resources, developing and attracting talent, and cultivating new ideas and energy to drive organizational change and innovation.

In analyzing data from more than 150 leaders, Wiseman has identified five disciplines that distinguish Multipliers from Diminishers. These five disciplines are not based on innate talent; indeed, they are skills and practices that everyone can learn to use - even lifelong and recalcitrant Diminishers. Lively real-world case studies and practical tips and techniques bring to life each of these principles, showing you how to become a Multiplier, too, whether you are a new or an experienced manager. This revered classic has been updated with new examples of Multipliers as well as two new chapters - one on accidental Diminishers and one on how to deal with Diminishers.

Just imagine what you could accomplish if you could harness all the energy and intelligence around you. Multipliers will show you how.

    Good points, but highly repetitive

A couple of chapters in I was thinking, this is some great stuff! But later while finishing the 2nd to the last chapter, I was exasperated, I didn't think I could finish the book (but I forced myself to). I felt like I was hearing the same stories over and over. This book could have been half as long and delivered same or more value.

    good to a point

I was really enjoying the content until I got to the point where resources and tools were recommended.

I was disappointed to find that the tools were either very basic (free) or more detailed but at a cost (one priced at $500). The book seemed to take on a more marketing approach for the authors consulting services as opposed to a DIY help book.

I also felt that the publishers were dragging content out in the last few chapters - mostly anecdotal and very generalist.

One of the top 5 business books I've ever read...

Well researched, well written, insightful and engaging. One of the few books I'll read twice.

It's OK. Good insight but WAY too drawn out.

What was most disappointing about Liz Wiseman and Stephen Covey - foreword ’s story?

The findings were interesting but it was too long. Felt like the content was stretched for the purpose of publishing. This would have sufficed as an HBR article.

    Mandatory Reading for Leaders

If you could sum up Multipliers, Revised and Updated in three words, what would they be?

    Understand Leadership, Sucka!

What did you like best about this story?

It provides a framework for leading different personalities and enabling their inherent talents.

What about Liz Wiseman and John Meagher ’s performance did you like?

Clearly presented and fluent. Honestly, I did not realize it was the author since many audible books are professional voice actors.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Turning opposition to symbiosis

    Any additional comments?

This book discusses Multipliers and their opposite, euphemistically named Accidental Diminishers. The Multipliers portion seems obvious, while the Deminisher side was eye-opening. Assuming the readers are mentally stable, invested in their company, and have a genuine desire to lead a successful team, applying the principles to your workplace will improve the culture.

My only negative is the excessive "name dropping" and repeated mention of accolades. We purchased the book, you've already sold us and you are awesome! Don't try so hard ;)

Great book to aid in my journey as a leader

This was a great book for me! I could see both my multiplier and my diminisher tendencies and it has already helped me to see the genius in those around me!

    Excellent book!

Excellent book! Made me think about my own management style a lot. Good books is not all about the content, but rather what it makes you think about.

    Incredible Resource for Leaders

This is an incredible book to read/listen to if you're looking at building an effective team, developing your leadership style, trying to work with a difficult leader, etc.

Liz Wiseman (author) reads the book herself and I think that only increases the delivery of the content.

I can't profess to be the type who reads 100 books a year; I probably manage 25-35, but this book has been the best book I've read in this past year.

    it's... it's just not good

Falling into the corporate self help genre, the book fails to define and measure what it purports to study. the whole experience comes off without any outstanding contribution to the reader. But it does make up a few new buzz words.
