Quelque chose. Pauvre mot. Beloved author Elizabeth Gilbert returns to fiction with a unique love story set in the New York City theater world during the 1940s. Told from the perspective of an older woman as she looks back on her youth with both pleasure and regret (but mostly pleasure), City of Girls explores themes of female sexuality and promiscuity, as well as the idiosyncrasies of true love. In 1940, nineteen-year-old Vivian Morris has just been kicked out of Vassar College, owing to her lackluster freshman-year performance.

Exceptional performance, great story
I really enjoyed this book, it’s story, the historical context... The reader was excellent, clearly fluent in French which made the rendering of the French names and few sentences sound natural (which does not happen often!) I am already sorry to see that the next books won’t be read by the same person

Simply charming and exciting
Would you listen to The Seven Sisters again? Why?
Yes. I find there will probably be more clues to pick up as the story will obviously progress. I can't wait for the sequels. Surely there are more to come. The story ended with a clue to the beginning of the next saga. There is still so much to see were the author is going with this. 5 more sisters, Pa-salts past and connection with the girls, SPOILER ALERT- 7th sister.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I don't think I had a favorite, they were all intriguing in their own way.
What about Emily Lucienne’s performance did you like?
Very well done. Love the way she is able to speak in the accents and languages that make the stories come alive.
If you could take any character from The Seven Sisters out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Pa-salt. What was he up to?
Any additional comments?
Please don't disappoint. Must know when the sequels can be expected. More, more, more.

Who Are You?
It had a slow start, but once it got going, I couldn't put it down. I'm hoping to find the stories about the remainder of the sisters, as this book only delved into the complete story of the eldest. Though fictional, it makes you question who you are and who do you want to be.

Great story!
If you could sum up The Seven Sisters in three words, what would they be?
Couldn't put down
What did you like best about this story?
The writers brought the characters to Life.
Which scene was your favorite?
Grandmother speaking to Maya.
If you could take any character from The Seven Sisters out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Isabella. Her story was faded after her husband discovered the truth.
Any additional comments?
I am now a fan of Lucinda Riley and can't wait to read the next book in this series. In the meantime I will be listening to another on of Lucinda's books.

I did enjoy the story very much. There was interesting historical fiction and good character development. I look forward to the rest in the series… with the exception of the narrator. While she did well with the accents, many times she seemed to ne thinking of something other than what she was reading and her low monotone was distracting. That said, overall I enjoyed this book.

Beautifully Crafted Love Story
This is my first book by Lucinda Riley. I heard a lot of good things about the stories of the seven sisters and wanted to see for myself. First of all, I want to say thanks you to Emily Lucienne for the way she read the story. With an audio book I find it almost as important to have a pleasant reader as it is to have a good story and in this case it’s definitely both! The Story, or should I say stories in this book, are beautifully crafted and connected and even though it’s a rather long audio book, I never found myself bored. I also love that Riley did such a good job with her research on the historic parts she included in Maia’s story. All in all, I can say I enjoyed this book very much and not only am I looking forward to reading the second sister’s story but it also really made want to travel again, as soon as possible.
