    Description

Dr. Aphra teams up with Darth Vader himself in this audiobook original - an expanded adaptation of the critically acclaimed Marvel comics series, performed by a full cast.

Dr. Chelli Lona Aphra, rogue archaeologist, is in trouble again.

A pioneer in the field of criminal xenoarchaeology, Aphra recognizes no law, has no fear, and possesses no impulse control. To her, the true worth of the galactic relics she discovers isn’t found in a museum, but in an arsenal. This viewpoint has led to a lot of misunderstandings. After her latest plan goes horribly wrong, her roguish ways are on the verge of catching up to her, when suddenly Darth Vader, terror of the galaxy, swoops in with his lightsaber ignited and...saves her life?

Don’t get her wrong - it’s not like she’s ungrateful. Sure, her new boss is a lord of the Sith. And okay, she may have just become a pawn in a deadly game being played by him and his boss, who happens to be the Galactic Emperor. And yes, the life expectancy of anyone who disappoints Vader can be measured in seconds.

But she’s back doing what she does best. She’s got a ship to fly, a heist to pull, and two unorthodox but effective metal buddies: Triple-Zero, a protocol droid specializing in etiquette, customs, translation, and torture; and BT-1, an astromech loaded with enough firepower to take down a battlecruiser. Together, they might just find a way to get the job done and avoid the deadly performance review that waits at its conclusion.

    Just kidding. She’s doomed.

    Really fun time !

Aphra became my favorite Star Wars comics character, so i had to listen to this audiobook.
The major problem with this story is that it's not an original one : it's a retelling of a vader storyline as well some mainline star wars comics through Aphra's eyes. But since i didn't read those, i didn't have a problem. everything else was great !

i love how everything is being told through Aphra's totally unbiased point of view. It makes for some pretty funny moments and various comments on the different characters The story also has its touching moments.

Aphra is proven once more to be one of my favorite new canon SW characters, as well as a cool representation for the LGBT+ community.

Easy recommend from me. Especially if you never read the comics it takes from.

    This is absolutely brilliant

It's even better than the comic and perfectly captures the spirit. Funny as hell and Chelli is endlessly likeable. Dr. Aphra is my favorite Star Wars of the Disney era outside of maybe Rogue One. I would buy 10 more of these if they made them. 100. And I would totally subscribe to Disney+ if they actually make the rumored Aphra series. And I don't even like Disney or want to give them my money! I say that just to emphasize how badly I want more Aphra in every possible medium.

Not an original story. Lifted from Vader comic.

Don’t get me wrong, the performances are great and the internal monologues are funny and insightful. But most of the story and dialogue was lifted word for word from the vader comics by Keiron Gillen. If you were looking for a new story, Don’t waste your credits.

    EXCELLENT

Even though I’d read the comics and knew the ending, I absolutely LOVED this retelling. Emily Woo Zeller brought just the right amount of sass and vulnerability to Aphra. With the exception of one couple-minute exchange between Aphra and Sana (Nicole Lewis) the voices were distinct and clear and well-acted.

Biggest complaint? It was TOO SHORT! I wanted MORE! :-)

    Lacking any real plot content

I read the Dr. Aphra comics and enjoyed them. I also have been very pleased with a lot of the Star Wars books lately but this one just doesn’t meet the standards that the Thrawn series, Alphabet Squadron, and others have set. The plot is meandering and seemingly pointless and the personality quirks of Aphra that come through in the comics are more just annoying in this version. I would recommend going for a different expanded universe book.

Best SW Audio book I've listened to

I have about 40 in my library and this one definitely tops them on performance alone.

Pour One Out For The Disaster Gays

an absolutely delightful story set between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back Aphra follows new to non-comics fans character Doctor Chelloni Aphra as she ends up with Darth Vader trying to figure out who this mysterious kid that destroyed the Death Star is. Emily Woo Zeller is an absolute delight as disaster lesbian space archaeologist Aphra and the rest of the cast sprinkled in make for a fun performance.

if you've read the comic arcs Aphra is based on one of the best things about listening is when a line of dialogue from the comics pops up and you can picture the panel. if you haven't read the comics it's absolutely not necessary as this is a comprehensive introduction to Aphra in a setting most star wars fans know well.

    Terrible waste of a credit.

why did they reduce all of her early comics into one audible? why did they make it in a first person narrative? i couldnt finish it, i was too annoyed by the entire presentation.

    Very Annoying Character

Dr Aphra was written in a very annoying way. And the way she was narrated made it even worse. I think she would’ve been better voiced in an English instead of an annoying American one.

Also it would be helpful to categorize titles that have a lot of gay content in it. I really don’t want to be hearing Star Wars characters that are gay. Completely ruins the experience. I listen to Star Wars so that i can get away from this world and forget the nuances of it, bringing in controversial topics/issues like that just put a sower taste to Disney’s acquisitions Star Wars. Def not the Star Wars i remember back in the day.

    Too Much Comic Story

So, the acting was fine, but the characters and writing were a hot mess. This trope filled flat characters are why I dont read comics.

Like listening to the most annoying girl in school

I’ve read/listened to almost EVERY Star Wars novel and this is the worst. I like Doctor Aphra in the comics quite a bit. The character just intrigues me, love the idea behind her. Unfortunately this novel made me fall so far out of love with Doctor Aphra I will likely never read another story with her again.

    Bummer

Performance is unbearable, nothing other than straight PAIN.

    This book isn’t short enough...

I will never listen to another book performed by Emily Woo Zeller again. She turns Doctor Aphra into a 13 year old goth lesbian cheerleader hoped up on speed with the personality of a fly.
Completely ruins her for me. Definition of a “one trick pony”

The author Sarah Kuhn must have just learned how to write something internal monologues. It’s an entire book of internal monologues.

I truly wish I liked it and I don’t know who this book is for tbh. The potential to make Doctor Aphra a total bada** is here, Vader is here. What you get is a whinny & annoying. She’s supposed to be a genius sociopath. Instead she’s bottom barrel Star Wars. Same tier as Jar Jar (sorry Ahmed Best)

(I don’t care about her lover, or how dreamy her girlfriend is... I want a cool story with her searching for Sith/Jedi artifacts while Vader looms as her shadow, maybe don’t have her talk the ENTIRE BOOK) Come on!
Give her some depth at least.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS BOOK!
    THIS IS NOT THE WAY!

    Sehr ungewöhnlich und unterhaltsam

Durchweg zu empfehlendes Hörspiel, aber weit weg von wie sich Star Wars sonst anfühlt.

Unusual for a Star Wars novell

This is totally different from any Star Wars novel I ever read/listened. The performance is extremely well done, down to the voice of Darth Vader and ambient sounds in any situation. The story is not very special in itself, but it doesn't fail to entertain. Some elements, like one of the droids remind me a lot of games like "Knights of the Old Republic".
