Description

New York Times Best Seller

Han Solo and Lando Calrissian are reunited on the Millennium Falcon in a galaxy-spanning novel inspired by Solo: A Star Wars Story. But even the fastest ship in the galaxy can’t outrun the past...

THEN:

It’s one of the galaxy’s most dangerous secrets: a mysterious transmitter with unknown power and a reward for its discovery that most could only dream of claiming. But those who fly the Millennium Falcon throughout its infamous history aren’t your average scoundrels. Not once, but twice, the crew of the Falcon tries to claim the elusive prize - first, Lando Calrissian and the droid L3-37 at the dawn of an ambitious career, and later, a young and hungry Han Solo with the help of his copilot, Chewbacca. But the device’s creator, the volatile criminal Fyzen Gor, isn’t interested in sharing. And Gor knows how to hold a grudge....

NOW:

It’s been 10 years since the rebel hero Han Solo last encountered Fyzen Gor. After mounting a successful rebellion against the Empire and starting a family with an Alderaanian princess, Han hasn’t given much thought to the mad inventor. But when Lando turns up at Han’s doorstep in the middle of the night, it’s Fyzen’s assassins that he’s running from. And without Han’s help, Lando - and all life on Cloud City - will be annihilated.

With the assistance of a young hotshot pilot, an Ewok slicer prodigy, the woman who might be the love of Lando’s life, and Han’s best and furriest friend, the two most notorious scoundrels in the New Republic are working together once more. They’ll have to journey across the stars - and into the past - before Gor uses the device’s power to reshape the galaxy.

Praise for Last Shot:

“Action-packed in all the right ways.” (Tordotcom)

“A fun, breezy read, with plenty of humor, Ewok hackers, murderous robots, and rousing fight scenes as Han and Lando go from scrape to scrape [to] track down a long-forgotten enemy.” (The Verge)

“The flat-out funniest Star Wars novel to date.” (Alternative Nation)

Daniel Jose Older is a horrible writer & narrator.

This is not a Star Wars novel. It's bad fan fiction fulfilling Mr. Older's personal fantasies and it reflects his own issues with his father rather than portraying how Han Solo would be as a father. Daniel has publicly admitted that he wrote Han as a bad father because in his deluded mind, that somehow creates equality. In my opinion, this book is gross character assassination of both Han and Lando.

Not a fan of the authors narration

The author of the book was honestly my least favorite star wars audiobook narrator so far. it was very confusing to follow the story at times because he used the same voice for Han, Sana, and the narration.

It's a letdown and boring

This will be the first Audible book I have returned sadly. As others have mentioned about the three narrators, two are actually seasoned character actors, and the third is the author who just reads the book to you with a little emphasis. Mind you he is not a horrible narrator on his own, but jumping between two other people who try to do voices (one does very well with his Han and Lando), and then a guy who just reads it to you. It is all over the place and interrupts the flow of the book. It would be one thing if it were different perspectives of characters, but it's the same core characters. I found this distracting and unable to really get into the flow of the book. The writing I find boring personally. I can't get invested because it feels all over the place as I have mentioned. Now, 10 years ago, 15 years ago, now, 10 years ago, now, 5 years ago... While I believe the author has a decent Lando here (and only decent), Han feels just way off to the point you would think he really is as another reviewer put it "Homer Simpson". Constant "Huh?" and spaced out Han seems to just be sleep walking throughout most of this novel and feels more like a side redshirt you expect to be offed because he is inconsequential. It's a let down and he really makes him flat and boring with little charisma. All he wants is Caf in this book. I feel like the author just doesn't even know who Solo is. Little things like saying Chewie would "wreck ass". Since when has he talked like that in anything? The action in the book is droll, boring, and just seems to drag along. There is nothing that makes me feel I can't stop listening. I have had to back up several times because I find my mind wondering off in boredom with Last Shot. I could go on about this, but I feel it is pointless. At least with Audible there is a "refund it if you don't love it" policy. And I certainly do not love this book. This is just my opinion as one consumer and a Star Wars fan. I can't even finish it after 7 hours in. I find myself just not caring about anyone in this book. Even the main characters have become annoying with the authors style and everything just feels like a jumbled hot mess of confusion, boredom with a large helping of being let down. It really makes me wonder if Disney/Lucasfilm has anyone really reviewing all the new stories and cannon before being published to churn out the money.

Fun, but not a repeater

The story was mildly engaging but Han Solo in all the movies was so self assured, confident and optimistic but Older made him almost "Homer Simpsonish", He comes across as incompetent and blundering, nothing like the real Solo.

Marc Thompson does a spectacular narration, Daniel Jose Older should have just left it there. Older is a decent author but a narrator for a star wars novel he is not. January LaVoy does a good job as well but Marc Thompson is def the stand out.

I love the audio extras. It is fun to hear blaster fire and back ground noise in the audio. Love that in the star wars books.

It's good but not great

Mark Thompson is great as always, as well as January LaVoy, but Daniel Older doesn't preform well with the narration with being so quick and not into the role(s) that's he's portraying.

GARBAGE

I think a biography of Jar Jar blinks would have been better that this bull shit. I listened to Most wanted before this and it was Infinitely better. This book makes solo look like such a bitch ass. Disney should delete this crap book and fire the author and editor. The person who voiceies the young han solo is so unbearable I'd rather listen to nails on a chalk board.

Too many narrators

The story was average to good & I was ok with the constant flashbacks as it did serve the story. Having a different narrator for every time period seems like it would be a cool idea but was annoying in reality.

Decent, confusing w/ multiple timelines & narrator

probably my least favorite Star Wars book that I have listened to on Audible. the main storyline was pretty good but the going back and forth previous timelines and narrators made it confusing and hard to follow.

Very great for a first Star Wars story.

A favorite, though not one I'd keep, but, excellent. All 3 narrators were excellent, though I do find it odd they went that route. More adult, if you will then most Star Wars stories, but that made it more interesting.

Excellent primer for Solo

What a great story! And Marc Thompson did an amazing job, as he always does on these Star Wars novels.

Good Han and Lando Story

Star Wars: Last Shot, is a good audio book. Amazing performance by Marc Thompson and January LaVoy. The story itself is very different from what I have seen or heard in Star Wars book, taking you through the eyes of Han and Lando in different time periods. Goes back to known locations as well new ones. It ties to the upcoming movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story. Daniel José Older writing is very inspiring. I recommend it to Star Wars fans or not as well.
