Description

A century before A Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros....

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms compiles the first three official prequel novellas to George R. R. Martin's ongoing masterwork, A Song of Ice and Fire.

Before Tyrion Lannister and Podrick Payne, there were Dunk and Egg. A young, naïve but courageous hedge knight, Ser Duncan the Tall towers above his rivals - in stature if not experience.

Tagging along with him is his diminutive squire, a boy called Egg - whose true identity must be hidden from all he and Dunk encounter: for in reality he is Aegon Targaryen, and one day he will be king. Improbable heroes though they be, great destinies lie ahead for Dunk and Egg, as do powerful foes, royal intrigue and outrageous exploits.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms brings together for the first time the first three official prequel novellas to George R. R. Martin's ongoing masterwork, A Song of Ice and Fire, set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory.

Commentaires

Praise for A Song of Ice and Fire: "In the grand epic fantasy tradition, Martin is by far the best...tense, surging, insomnia-inflicting." ( Time Magazine)
"An absorbing, exciting read...Martin's style is so vivid that you will be hooked within a few pages." ( The Times)
"The sheer mind-boggling scope of this epic has sent other fantasy writers away shaking their heads.... Its ambition: to construct the Twelve Caesars of fantasy fiction, with characters so venomous they could eat the Borgias." ( Guardian)
"Colossal, staggering.... Martin captures all the intoxicating complexity of the Wars of the Roses or Imperial Rome in his imaginary world.... The writing is always powerful...." ( SFX)

Great Book

Great stories, very well put together with a nice flow.

I would love a continuation of the series to the point of him becoming Sir Duncan the Tall of the Kingsguard

Egg reminds me so much of Arya!!!

This book is absolutely amazing, George R. R. Martin did once again what he does best, if you wanna know Ser Duncan the Tall’s(mentioned a few times in TGOT TV show) childhood as well as that of King Aegon V Targaryen, this is the book for you...
Enjoy😘

The reading is a bit childlike for the material.

The reading is too innocent and more fitting to a teen adventure. There are free readings online if this series that I enjoyed slightly more.

Loved it

Great story and Harry Lloyd does all its characters justice with his varied accents. A worthy successor to the late Roy Dotrice, who narrated the main books.

Fairly good all round

Fantastic book. Not quite on the same level as Roy Dotrice but Harry Lloyd does an okay job at most of the characters.
Egg is great. Blood Raven is great. But the voice of Dunk just sounds off to me. The way he delivers the lines just doesn't sound right some of the time.
That's about the only criticism for this series of novellas wrapped up in this Audiobook.
George R. R. Martin is firing on all cylinders, filling out Westeros on every page. The way he can draw you in to a book world and keep you there while playing you like Rhaegar plays his harp is mesmerizing.
Best author of our time. Perhaps all time.
Simply can not wait for this whole ASOIAF series, Dunk & Egg and Fire & Blood books to be completed so everyone can experience all of the mysteries of Westeros, Essos and hopefully more of Planetos at large.
Keep up the AMAZING work George.
We love and appreciate you, and support you while you continue to pour your heart and soul into this collection of books that brings joy to SO MANY people, the world over.

The fast paced action

Lovely voice and characterisation, but just too fast!
For fast past bits and all those lists of gallant knights I’m compelled to run at .75x otherwise I lose track.

The magic of Westeros

It is hard to be a fair judge of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", if you are an avid reader of "A Song of Ice and Fire". George Martin manages to pull you immedfiately into the magic of Westeros, where chivalry, honour and courage struggle with corruption, intrigue and vile meanness. Of course, this book does not have the epic breadth of a "Game of Thrones", but the ingredients are all there. It is great storytelling, even if it does not quite match the quality of "A Song of Ice and Fire". By comparison the story is quite harmless and straight forward, it is a simple tale, not unlike a fairy tale.

Dunk, a squire to an old hedge knight, takes the sword of his dead master and decides to become a hedge knight of his own. Dunk is tall and strong, perhaps not overly smart, but more chivalrous and honest than most of his more noble born colleagues. His strong sense of honor and right or wrong leads him immediately into trouble. He beats up a Tarrgaryen prince, who is abusing and hurting a young and beautiful puppeteer girl. As a consequence, he is offered a choice, to lose his hand, tonque and foot or a trial by combat.

This is not the only misfortune Dunk stumbles into, but luckily he finds a young squire, Egg, who decides to follow him into peril, if necessary. The strong, but decent and honest Dunk and his outspoken and smart squire remind me a little bit of Don Quijote and Sancho Pansa.

Nice and harmless fun for the fans of "A Song of Ice and Fire"

Reader changes Volume und whispers partly

Book and Story are great, even greater then a single GOT part imo, but Reader changes Volume constantly and whispers every like 10 seconds. Nogo for reading style!

OK if you have a long drive.

Story lines were a bit mixed, but went on for long enough while driving from Austria to the south of France.
