It is the morning of the reaping that will kick off the 10th annual Hunger Games. In the Capitol, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is preparing for his one shot at glory as a mentor in the Games. The once-mighty house of Snow has fallen on hard times, its fate hanging on the slender chance that Coriolanus will be able to out charm, outwit, and outmaneuver his fellow students to mentor the winning tribute.

The odds are against him. He’s been given the humiliating assignment of mentoring the female tribute from District 12, the lowest of the low. Their fates are now completely intertwined - every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor or failure, triumph or ruin. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute...and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes.

    I listened to this book after finishing the original trilogy read by Tatiana Maslany and the difference is striking. I loved how Tatiana Maslany gave life to all the different character and put an effort to modulate her reading according to the action in the story, Santino Fontana read it all in the same voice. Some part of the book are songs, Fontana did not even try and just read the lyrics (when some of those songs already existed in the original trilogy and Maslany gave it to try at singing), making it boring, painful, repetitive. The change is too harsh between the 2 narrators and I think Fontana was not well suited for a book with so many songs and such intense action.

    Now about the story, this book is IMHO not as good as the original trilogy, the end is rushed (the build up to the change in dynamics between the 2 main character is invisible and switches 30 min before the end of the book) and the story not as compelling. Yet, it is a very interesting dive into what was president Snow before being president Snow and developed his character nicely without excusing his actions. I enjoyed this book very much and recommend it if you're a hunger games fan.

    I liked the overall story, but felt like it was let down by the ending, with the main characters being in love all the way through and then all of a sudden out to kill each other within a few minutes. Seemed a little far fetched, although I suppose the build up to that was also there, so perhaps I’m being too harsh. It’s a definite must for any hunger games fan.

    I really like that Collins decided to do a prequel story for the hunger games since there was obviously a lot of history there. And she did not disappoint. Great story, great tie ins to the future stories and I hope she can figure out more ways to add to this epic saga.
    My only critique would be the narrator. He’s not terrible (I’ve heard way worse!) but the songs are all read like poems and the characterization of some of the female roles are just not done well— like just all wrong lol. But it doesn’t ruin the listen.

    Mon livre préféré des 5 un plaisir de l’écouter. The song where not really read as such so it didn’t had the same impact.

    Didn’t expect much as prequels can be a little bit far fetched to fit the original story but I loved it and found myself really immersed in the story!

    It started off interesting and quickly became boring. The Reader’s performance didn’t help. His tone was monotonous and not at All engaging.
