  • #10 Ishvara Pranidhana - Surrender to a Higher Power
    Jun 16 2022

This is the last in this podcast series and I’d like us to look at the niyama (moral code) Ishvara Pranidhana which is surrender to a higher power.

How we want to think of this power is up to us and the practise of surrender is to offer our actions to that higher force. This can be God, the universe or in service to others.

We can even think that our actions and more to benefit someone else rather than a result that we might gain.

When we approach these actions in our life in this way it can bring peace and joy to all that we do.

I’d like to share a breath meditation. A simple practise to help bring you to the present moment.

  • #9 Svadhyaya - Self study
    Jun 9 2022

This week I’d like us to look at the niyama (our moral code) Svadhyaya which means self-study.

This can be learning something of our own choice, observing our actions and meditating. Self study is about turning in and understanding what our true passions are, what our values are and what feels right to us.

When we learn something, we should be able to reflect, apply and take actions that are aligned with our values and our passions. To do this effectively we need to observe ourselves and ask – why are we doing this? Does it make my heart sing? Or am I just following a trend.

By maintaining a practise of self-study, we can better understand who we are and what is important to us. We can connect to the divine energy of the universe and feel at peace.

To help with this connection to our true self I share with you the Golden egg meditation practise.

  • #8 Tapas - Discipline
    Jun 2 2022

This week I’d like us to look at the niyama Tapas, which means discipline and not the small Spanish snacks :)

Tapas is the discipline to persevere and practise something even if it is difficult. When we do this, we reveal our true greatness.

When we are consistent with our efforts, we enable ourselves to be strong through challenges. And when we approach these challenges from a place of love and positivity we grow.

The practice for you to enjoy this week is breath and movement - Enjoy!

  • #7 Santosha - Contentment
    May 26 2022

This week we are looking at the Niyama (moral code) Santosha – contentment.

Being content allows us to experience life as it is right now. Knowing that we do not have to wait for some event or achievement before we can feel happy or at peace. Have you ever said, it will be ok when…. I get a new job, move house, finish these exams, loose a few pounds and so on.

Who we really are, right now, is already good enough – you are amazing, rejoice in this!

The practice for you to enjoy this week is a Body point relaxation - Enjoy!

  • #6 Saucha - Purity
    May 19 2022

This week we move onto the Niyama’s which are the next set of moral codes. The first of these is Saucha – purity or cleanliness.

Cleanliness can be considered as how we maintain our bodies, minds and spaces. Our Yoga asana (postures), pranayama (breathing) and meditation practices are all ways of cleansing.

When we allow good things in - good things come out :)

The practise for you this week is the three part breath - enjoy

  • #5 Aparigraha - Detachment
    May 12 2022

This week’s Yama (moral code) is Aparigraha- detachment.

The practise of Aparigraha can be detaching ourselves from the results of our actions

We should do the best we can at every moment. Then all we need do is have faith that everything turns out as it is meant to be. We can detach ourselves from the worry of what will be.

The practice for you to enjoy this week is an ocean meditation to help us ride life’s ups and downs.

  • #4 Bramacharya - Right use of Energy
    May 5 2022

This week’s Yama (moral code) is Bramacharya- right use of energy.

What is right use of energy? To use our energy to fulfil our life’s purpose. Sounds deep I know :)

We can think of this using energy to conduct our daily tasks, look after the people around us, do our work, perform our duties and so on.

The practise for this week is Belly Breath or Diaphragmatic breath.

  • #3 Asteya - Non Stealing
    Apr 28 2022

The Yama this week is asteya which means non-stealing. I’m sure that we do not steal intentionally but there may be times when we do so without realising.

We may be inclined to “steal” when we are afraid that we are lacking in some way. We may not have the faith that we have what we need to fulfil our desires.

If we feel we are enough and that we have enough we can feel happier in ourselves and more content.

This week I share with you a Body Point Scan Relaxation
