Offred is a Handmaid in The Republic of Gilead, a religious totalitarian state in what was formerly known as the United States. She is placed in the household of The Commander, Fred Waterford - her assigned name, Offred, means 'of Fred'. She has only one function: to breed. If Offred refuses to enter into sexual servitude to repopulate a devastated world, she will be hanged. Yet even a repressive state cannot eradicate hope and desire. As she recalls her pre-revolution life in flashbacks, Offred must navigate through the terrifying landscape of torture and persecution in the present day, and between two men upon which her future hangs.

Amazing 🤩
I could not stop listening to it. The narrator is just perfect for this and it felt very intime. I loved it!!!!!

Very good !!
I really enjoyed it, the story is great, very well written. I loved that it’s read by Elizabeth Moss, I saw the series so i would have her voice already in my head, and I love her style.

What a performance!
Riveting story by Mrs Atwood. I love how the reader truly makes the text come alive. Beautiful!

one with the narrator
Moss did a brilliant job reading the story. I felt as if I were living the moment. Handmaid's tale is especially pertinent during these times and gives cause for reflection and questioning.

Anxiously good !
I came here after binging the 3 first seasons in 2 weeks: I needed more from Offred and Elisabeth Moss delivered this jewel of a narrative !!

Captivating story, brilliantly read
An engaging story made doubly so by the main narrator's brilliant reading. The final chapter, though jarring and unexpected, reveals an ingenious concept and structure that will have me downloading the sequel as soon as I finish this review.

Very good book
Really enjoyed this book, the narrator sets the mood, though some of the whispering might not be suitable for listening in a car for instance. Ending quite frustrating, but I'm glad they recommend the sequel.
