Description

Powers are determined by geographic birth locations, and only the rich and powerful are permitted access to prized sites. SC is the first person born in space.

The punishment for unauthorized births is death. Out of fear, SC keeps his strange abilities as his darkest secret. He pretends to be nothing more than a mere Regular while his peers develop unique powers, varying from controlling lightning to producing diamond-hard skin. But when his mother is kidnapped by an unknown organization, SC has no choice but to act.

SC ventures into a school of talented students to learn to fight, where he must learn to master his powers without revealing their true nature. But soon he realizes that the school is more than it appears and that it may hold the secret to his missing mother. To rescue her, he will have to reveal powers never before seen in all of history.

By award-winning author Leonard Petracci, a master of tension and suspense.

Bug

Good story and fun to listen too.
the only bad thing is that chapter 87 repeats again as chapter 88.

star child is not a name

the plots half finished-as in its undeveloped not incomplete, and star child is not a name. honestly who in their right mind would have a child with strange powers that they wish to hide the birth of and then name him after the very thing that if anyone discovered about him would get him killed. At first I thought it was just a pet name then I realized it was his actual name. though me out of the story every time it was said and they just kept saying it.
Seems like the author was just using it as a place holder, and when he couldn't think of anything better he said screw it, that's his name now.

a work in progress

I am all for a little wish fulfillment, but it was hard to get all the way through this book. the power system is in need of refinements, with the supers not being knowledgeable and testing themself to their limits. I was able to come up with many uses for the "lower" classed supers that would have made them more useful. the protagonist seemed to be ok...but went from being a control freak to a all out psycho. her powers got to be fairly annoying, and went from a low power she had to have repetitive use to make work, to an almost all powerful compulsion power.....had she been that powerful in the beginning, she would have indoctrinate each student coming in and been unbeatable. Hopefully the writer will grow and any further books will be better. the style of writing worked, and I will give them a second try later.

Not bad, but

Overall great story, but two chapters are the same and narrator skips the lost chapter.

Disappointing

Minor spoilers follow :

.
.
.

Firstly.. his name is Star Child. Really. Every time someone says it I just shook my head.
He has these mega awesome powers that he didn't bother to learn to use.
How old is he exactly? He's supposed to be a 2nd year highschooler? So.. 15?
He acts like he's 9, whiny and annoying, except when he's making these extravagantly elaborate plans to overthrow the big bad guy.

The narration was acceptable but not amazing.

A narrator can make all the difference

While quite an imaginative work it was the passionate and energetic narration that made this a fantastic listening experience.

OK Story Made Better by Good Narration

The story was a little ridiculous at times. The world Petracci creates is unique and interesting, but the story he tells taking place in that world is a bit disjointed. The motivations and actions of the characters and some of the details don't really hold up under scrutiny. It was distracting, but didn't stop me from enjoying the book. I probably won't be looking for follow up stories set in this world or written by this author, but it was an enjoyable book, in that I finished it and was curious where it was going to end.

I thoroughly enjoyed the narration by Watt. Admittedly, the narrator's voice annoyed me at first, but I warmed up to it, and I enjoyed his take on the characters. He made the story much better than it should have been I think.

could have been so much more.

The author had created a good start for an epic tale, you could've written a book to rival the legends here. if you had taken the time to let the story play out without rushing it, the rehabilitation part he could've been there for 6 months to a year before anything fun happened, school intrigues and him learning how to fight properly. feels like you crammed a years worth of story into weeks making it all so fast paced, not letting us enjoy exciting parts of the books. I would say go back to the writing table, make this into s 600-700 page book and take the world with storm.
