Description

He held the fate of two worlds in his hands....

Once he was an orphan called Pug, apprenticed to a sorcerer of the enchanted land of Midkemia. Then he was captured and enslaved by the Tsurani, a strange, warlike race of invaders from another world.

There, in the exotic Empire of Kelewan, he earned a new name - Milamber. He learned to tame the unimagined powers that lay within him. And he took his place in an ancient struggle against an evil Enemy older than time itself.

Enjoyable and Familiar

When I first bought this book it was missing most of the first chapter.

Audible has resolved this technical issue since I first bought the book and I listened only after the file was restored to its full length 18hrs 22min).

And I found it an enjoyable continuation from the first book Magicians Apprentice.

The story is a familiar one, but well written and the characters are engaging.

Over half the first chapter missing

I reported this issue to audible as soon a started listening to the book, and got a response showing they didn’t really list to my complaint. If you have read-the paperback the audio stops about page 4 and the story pickups up in chapter 2 on page 16. Dropping major story plot lines. Audiobooks need to fix this for their listeners because we bought an unabridged book and end up with an abridged one.

Awesome though chapter 1 was shortened.

What happened to chapter 1? There is a large portion missing about the overseer and his attack on Pug and Pug’s hand injury. Not sure why it was cut out. Not sure I like that.

It’s missing part of chapter 1

I love this story and the performance is great, but it only has 2 pages of the first chapter.

Great book wish it was all here

This is an awesome adventure, the down side is Chapter 1 is missing most of the chapter, and chapter 2 is missing several parts also. I wish the entire book was available and ready to go.

Greatest Books ever

I have waited many years for these to be released. Great books from my youth that are timeless classics . One of the best series ever written.

a wonderful book

a bit short, but that is forgiven. The first book and this one are truly one large book, broken up for publishing and reading purposes. I thoroughly enjoyed this change of pace in writing style, when compared to other fantasy books, it is a breath of fresh air.

Overall great book

Great book. Got a little bored during chapters 3 and 4, but then it picked back up. Interested to see how the series progresses. I gave story four stars for the boring chapters and because it felt kind of choppy at the end. I don't really understand why the rift can't be opened just like before. SPOILER ALERT: Arutha (spelling?) is obviously going to be king eventually. Also there has to be more to Tomas' character development and the golden armor/sword. Lots of new undiscovered lands for Pug to explore. Also I definitely thought he was going to end up with the princess. I wish the magic was explained more instead of Pug suddenly being a master. I still don't know what his magic can or can't do. Definitely enjoyed overall and plan on getting through the remaining books.

Great story

I am always looking for new book series to feed the appetites of my kids, and Feist has aided me in that venture. The story is full of unexpected twists that has kept me engaged and coming back for more!

A story that reads like a history lesson

The beginning is good but then the book advances as a history lesson in the middle and the author staggers on at the end for no reason but to amuse himself. I really liked the being, good character development and and interesting plot. The middle of the book makes huge jumps and forgets the story. It advances too fast, ignoring character development. Things just happen as if it's an outline of a story or the author providing highlights of events. The ending drags on and the last 1/3 seems pointless. But wait there is another pointless plot change and in the final chapter nothing happens but the author wrapping up with excessive boring detail that should have been spent on the middle of the book. Would I read the next book in the series? NOPE.
