Description

Whilst organising a mock murder hunt for the village fete hosted by Sir George and Lady Stubbs, a feeling of dread settles on the famous crime novelist Adriane Oliver. Call it instinct, but it's a feeling she just can't explain...or get away from.

In desperation she summons her old friend, Hercule Poirot - and her instincts are soon proved correct when the "pretend" murder victim is discovered playing the scene for real, a rope wrapped tightly around her neck.

But it's the great detective who first discovers that in murder hunts, whether mock or real, everyone is playing a part.

Christie and Suchet - Jolly Well Done

Any additional comments?

I wouldn't rate this as one of my favorite Poirot adventures but David Suchet brought the characters to life with such flair that I chuckled repeatedly over the variety of personalities he created with Christi's talent. It was a jolly listen.

Suchet does an awesome job

The plot is convoluted but hearing Suchet voicing the different characters it is like watching it on TV.

Mostly enjoyable

I have listened to every narrator of Agatha Christie books in order. David Suchet is very good except his Poirot voice is sometimes hard to understand due to the thick French accent. This can be frustrating, especially during the denouement, since you can't understand some of what is said.

Huh... Well i guess you never know

Ending. Blew. My. Mind. Poirot explained so splendidly that my mind felt like it just got ambushed. Shock and awe comes to mind when i remember about this book

Enjoyed the story and the conclusion. The intricate weaving of characters and personality was riveting.

A great Agatha Christie

I have read lots of Agatha Christie novels as they are pretty dependable as a good read. This was one of my favourites. Very enjoyable with some good, unexpected twists. Highly recommended.

A Favorite!

This is one of my favorite Poirot mysteries —it keeps you guessing up until the very end. David Suchet does an excellent job of narrating, although some of his female voices are a bit over the top. Overall a wonderful audiobook. Highly recommend.

Didn't stand the test of time

In this book, Christie calls people with disabilities "sub-normal." Awful! And there's a whole back and forth of dialogue where two men imply that a dead woman would only have been raped if she was attractive, and then they essentially say that she was ugly, but then also if she had been promiscuous she may have welcomed her death or rape. YIKES! WHAT?! There's another part of the book where a character nonchalantly says that a womans only worth is in her looks. SO WARPED. You can tell what a sexist and racist Christie was based on some of her books that just haven't stood the test of time... like this one.

Interesting story, exaggerated voices

Interesting story that remained mysterious up until the very end, but the voices were distracting and inarticulate at times.

Murders come in threes.

David Suchet delivers this tale with absolute perfection. While Poirot vanishes from the story telling for large chunks of the novel, the other characters draw you down the pathway until you are quite lost. Fortunately, the Belgian detective reappears and leads you back. The clues are all in plain site, but puzzling them together makes for all the fun.
