    Description

Two Bestselling Agatha Christie Novels in One Great Audiobook

    The Murder of Roger Ackroyd

Voted by the British Crime Writers’ Association as the "Best Crime Novel of all Time"

Hercule Poirot comes out of retirement in one of Agatha Christie’s ten favorite novels, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

Roger Ackroyd knew too much. He knew that the woman he loved had poisoned her brutal first husband. He suspected also that someone had been blackmailing her. Then, tragically, came the news that she had taken her own life with an apparent drug overdose.

However the evening post brought Roger one last fatal scrap of information, but before he could finish reading the letter, he was stabbed to death. Luckily one of Roger’s friends and the newest resident to retire to this normally quiet village takes over—none other than Monsieur Hercule Poirot.

    The Hollow

Agatha Christie’s classic, The Hollow, finds Poirot entangled in a nasty web of family secrets when he comes across a fresh murder at an English country manor.

A far-from-warm welcome greets Hercule Poirot as he arrives for lunch at Lucy Angkatell’s country house. A man lies dying by the swimming pool, his blood dripping into the water. His wife stands over him, holding a revolver.

As Poirot investigates, he begins to realize that beneath the respectable surface lies a tangle of family secrets and everyone becomes a suspect.

Two great Christie books, excellent narrator

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is one of Agatha Christie's best. The Hollow is good too, although I guessed the murderer pretty early on. As usual, Hugh Fraser provides excellent narration for both books.

2 of the best Poirot's yet

I always enjoy Christies mystery novels but I've always found issue with stupid captain Hastings. He's always so stuck up and irritable and doubtful of Poirot even though hes been proven time and again that his method always plays out in the end. At first its understandable, then it just gets tiresome. He has this arrogant air about him for some reason even though hes a complete dunce. Thats why i very much enjoyed the murder of Roger Ackroyd since it was written from the POV of a very agreeable doctor john. I wish that was his little sidekick all along but no matter, it was a very good book. Great suspence and fleshed out plot, kept me guessing till the end. Then The Hollow was written in a completely different style altogether. It took place on the outside looking in and delved into each characters heads and lives and really set the scene quite well. It almost seemed like a different kind of book altogether and not a Poirot mystery because he wasnt even that prevalent in it. But it was a great change of pace and i thoroughly enjoyed it. Also Hugh Fraser does a brilliant job of narrating these books. PERFECT fit, bravo👏

    The Hollow

The Hollow is the finest example of Agatha Christie that I have experienced so far. Hugh is a grand narrator.

    Amazing.

The story will stick with me forever. The kind of characters in The Hollow are so great and remind you of people you already know. The narrator does a great job of immersing you in the story. I literally have dozens of other Audibles I need to listen to, but I think I’m about to restart this one…

    Both titles worth a read!

So enjoyable! Christie's genius on full display. I regretted either book coming to completion. Both books are full of surprises to the very end. I highly recommend for Status Christie fans.

Hugh Fraser at his best! Such a great narrator!

Had checked out both books from the library, but wasn't able to finish them due to work. Decided to try audible, and man was it a real treat! The narrator really kept me tuned in. Amazing how he kept all the voices straight, and never missed a beat.

A disappointment. If you have to buy The Hollow better a joint copy like this.

The Hollow is probably my least favorite Christie this far and I’m certainly glad I didn’t have to waste a credit on it. The Murder of Rodger Ackroyd was fantastic, but I’ve been reading the Poirot books in order so I left off The Hollow until now. I enjoyed the twist ending , but that was about it. I read before that Christie said she’d ruined this book by adding Poirot to it and while I agree she did a disservice to him here, his very small presence here was one of the few enjoyable parts.

This was a book meant to highlight social interaction with the Murder being an almost forgettable backdrop to showcase the relationships between these mostly forgettable characters. The problem is that Christie has done this before in Poirot books and much better at that. Mystery of the Blue Train. Three Act Tragedy. Death in the Clouds. These are all instances where Poirot was relegated to a smaller role and in which the side characters were allowed to shine. The side characters certainly didn’t shine here. They were boring at best, insufferable at worst, and for the most part, rinse and repeats of character molds from past books.

I said it before, but the Murder and the solving of it was given very little focus here. Extremely dissatisfying for a Murder mystery. That said, it managed to fool me as I had an entirely different theory as to who and how it was done. There was no reveal scene either. It just sort of ends in the last fifteen minutes without and real build up and fade out. This is the first time I’ve left a Christie novel feeling as though I’d been wronged.

    Drags a little bit

Hercule Poirot is not a the main focus in this one and without him, it can drag.
