    Description

"Don't kill her. She's no good to us dead." These words haunt Jane MacGuire after a shocking attack shatters her world in an instant. Was it a random kidnapping attempt, or the countdown to something far more sinister?

Who is after her, and what do they want so badly they'll kill anyone in their way? That's what Jane is determined to find out, without the help of the police, the FBI, or her adoptive parents, forensic sculptor Eve Duncan, and her husband, Joe Quinn, of the Atlanta PD, because whoever is after her won't hesitate to hurt those she loves the most. Now Jane will go on the run with the only man who may be more dangerous than those who are pursuing her. A smuggler, a con man, and who knew what else, Mark Trevor had his own mysterious reasons for wanting to keep Jane safe and out of the hands of a killer obsessed with a 2,000-year-old mystery that could rock the modern-day world.

Orphaned at an early age, Jane grew up the hard way, but she was given a new life, a loving family, and a chance to pursue her interest in one of the greatest archaeological finds ever unearthed. Now someone was trying to destroy that new life before it could even get started. The past is returning with the kind of vengeance that knows no mercy. The countdown has already begun, and it's approaching zero faster than anyone thinks.

    Great!

Iris Johansen done it again! A great book! It is very helpful if you've read the previous Eve Duncan books, especially "Blind Alley" because this is ties into the story. As a Iris Johansen fan, I absolutely love this. Bernadette Dunn is a wonderful narrator, she makes you feel like you are in the middle of the events and not at home listenting to a book....... Great Job!

    Eh.

I'm a big Iris Johansen fan but listening to this book was like listening to a sex-ed tape with your grandparents. I'm not sure if it was the narrator or the book itself but I wouldn't go back and read the book to find out. The main character, Jane, who was from earlier Eve Duncan novels just didn't have the same "spunk" (for lack of a better term) than before. She was too over patriotic ("I'm not going to let this happen to MY country!"), self-righteous, and had this incredibly awkward sexuality. Many times did we hear how Trevor looking at her made her "tingle" and feel "heat". I've read and listened to many romance novels before (including other iris johansen novels) so it wasn't like it was "dirty" or anything, it was more like "UGH get over it!". If you're a big Johansen fan I would get it from the library and save yourself some money because after listening to it myself I found there were many other reviews that agreed with what I'm saying.

    The heat got old

I am a fan and look forward to each new book but this one was awful. It was filled with unsatisfied lust that had to be expressed constantly. It seemed to be written by a panting high school virgin rathter than a renouned writer. Each time there was even remote passing or a glance in the right direction we had to hear about the "heat" boiling up. It was frustrating and after awhile I found myself saing just get it over with, which they wait to long to do and then cannot help but talk about how great it was.

    Romance novel or adventure novel

I went into this expecting an adventure but found it as much a romance novel. That disappointed me a little. A much younger woman fantasizing about a swashbuckling older man. Trembling hands. Breathlessness. All too sappy for my taste.

    Beginning to dislike characters

I really started out liking the characters, but they become more unlikable in each book.

    One of her best

I like that this is an Eve Duncan book, but it doesn't revolve around Eve. Shows how great a writer Iris is.
Loved the reader. She was great with all the accents and voices. Really brought this one alive.
The book was solid. A few loose ends, but if I know Iris, she will revisit these characters in anther book and clear up those loose ends. Another way one can tell if the writer is good. Love the cohesiveness throughout her books when it comes to her characters, even her stand alone book characters are included in some of her series ones.
JUST A GREAT AND SOLID BOOK... FROM 1 END 2 THE OTHER...
