Description
When it comes to Eve Duncan, never say never…Is she dead or alive? That is the question on everybody's lips. Eve appears to have been the victim of James Doane, the psychopath who kidnapped her and forced her to use her skills as a forensic sculptor to reconstruct the skull of his depraved son. That's what everyone attending her funeral thinks, at least. But not even some of her top-brass colleagues know for sure whether her death is a hoax - a way to ensnare her brutal captor once and for all. But even if Eve really is still alive, how much longer can this charade continue before she falls into even greater danger? CIA agent Catherine Ling will waste no time trying to find out. Years ago, Eve risked everything to help Catherine find her missing son. Now Catherine, along with Eve's beloved Joe Quinn and Jane MacGuire, will go to the ends of the earth to save her.

Extreme Hyperbole & Unsophisticated Dialogue
I have read and reread the readers' reviews of this series. I just don't get it! How could this series have so many fans?
Without judging the whole series, I assert that this book is not well written. Virtually every conversation is heated, almost every interpersonal relationship contains some sexual tension, every decision is critical ... there is no flow, no rhythm, there are no calm and easy moments.
I particularly dislike Johansen's use of dialogue. It is awkward and unsophisticated; it made me think of a high school student who - having read some excellent mysteries - tried to imitate professional style but failed.
The narrator made a mediocre book worse. She uses her voice to distinguish between accents (Scottish voice is well done, for example), but she doesn't do a good job distinguishing between three American women's voices. I struggled to keep up ("Who said that??").
A waste of money, in my opinion. Blech.

Loved how she brought back old characters..
Where does Silencing Eve rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I read a lot of bad reviews about this series but I really enjoyed it. She brought back characters from her past book and we even got to meet some new. (Zander) I enjoyed the series and it was worth the money for 3 books.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes

Iris Johansen continues to fascinate, capture, and thrill us as her reading audience.
Iris Johansen has such depth and diversity in the development and molding of each character in her Eve Duncan series. Just when you would swear she could not possibly outdo herself, she comes through with amazing results her again! I can’t give a thorough review without revealing how valuable I find the Audible production of this volume. I admit that as with most sagas, being able to have read each prior volume gives more continuity to the story line and the defining of each character. However, even if you were to simply pick up this volume as your very first Eve Duncan read, I’m quite certain you will be drawn into a web of intrigue, that will ensure a very high likelihood that you will almost immediately upon completion, reach out for your next Eve Duncan novel. In this genre Iris Johansen can easily be associated with the finest story tellers at your disposal. So... do yourself a favor. Either embrace this as your introduction to Iris Johansen and her cast of characters in the Eve Duncan series, or start with the very first in the series. Either way, I’m confident you will find it a most rewarding experience to read. Listening to the book as an Audible volume, particularly with the wonderful woman reading you the story is a most excellent bonus. Enjoy!

Too many martyrs
I enjoy the Eve Duncan Series but find that the characters are all too "noble" and never want any help. They are very stubborn and it seems if the situation were in real life, they would hinder the progress of investigations by their bull-headedness. I also think that the story of Mark Trevor and Jane is too syrupy sweet. They had just reconnected and put off a physical relationship but the author makes it seem as though they had been in a long term relationship like Joe and Eve. Not interested in this part of the book. Overall, I do recommend the book but had a couple of issues with the story.
