    Description

Her blood is toxic to vampires.

If there is one thing eighteen-year-old Aurora Sky wants, it's to get off the iceberg she calls home. Being kissed before she graduates wouldn't hurt either.

Then a near-fatal car wreck changes everything. Government agents step in and save Aurora's life in exchange for her services as a vampire hunter in Alaska. Basically she's a glorified chew toy. All thanks to her rare blood type, which sends a vampire into temporary paralysis right before she has to finish the job - by hand.

Now Aurora's only friends are groupies of the undead and the only boy she can think about may very well be a vampire.

(Mature YA/New Adult. Contains mild language, violence, sexual situations...and blood sucking.)

    New Twist on Vapire Sci-Fi

This is not just your standard True Blood or Twilight-type vampire story. I thought there was an interesting twist in this one, despite being another vampire love story with a female main character. It wasn't the best story I've ever listened to, but it was good enough that I will probably continue with the rest of the series when it is available.

Aurora, the main character, is involved in a near fatal accident that nearly kills her. She discovers that a secret government agency offers to save her (with millions of dollars in treatments) in exchange for her continued service to the country by hunting and killing vampires. Her mother accepts, essentially leaving her indebted for the rest of her life.
Aurora's is told that her rare blood type allows her to carry the vampire virus with significant modifications that make her a weapon against vampires. When they drink her weaponized blood, they are temporarily incapacitated allowing her to kill them. The down side is that she could turn into a vampire if she doesn't receive periodic injections.
She is forced to kill a zombie-like, violent vampire during her agency initiation, but she soon discovers that not all vampires are alike. The boy she has long had a crush on, who is finally showing an interest in her, turns out to be a vampire himself. How can she possibly kill him when he is nothing like the violent killer he is supposed to be?

Narration was pretty good in this book. Overall I give it 4 stars and will probably continue with the series.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author, publisher, or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I was NOT required to write a positive review and this reflects my honest opinion of the work.

a unique take on vampires and a vampire hunting

Aurora Sky: Vampire Hunter by Nikki Jefford is a the first volume in a series by the same name about a young adult who abruptly becomes drafted by a secret government agency fighting vampires when she almost dies in a car crash. Quickly, Aurora must learn how to deal with her feelings about her near death experience and balance a new life that involves normal high school and secretly fighting vampires.

I really enjoyed this novel. It was a unique take on vampires and a vampire hunting. Vampirism was transformed into a medical condition rather than a random supernatural event that is difficult to explain. And therefore, the vampire hunting was also unique and having to do with their blood type rather than this fighting abilities, which I suppose they have to develop anyway. The government involvement was well done. It would have been nice to know more about it, but the “hush-hush” secret government agency aura was present whenever the agents were around. The vampire hunting was exciting with a lot of action and emotions. Most of the characters were well-developed. Even if a character wasn’t present much in the story, it was possible to imagine that there was more to him or her. The romantic aspect of the story was complicated and believable and I really enjoyed the twist even though I expected it. The one aspect of this novel that I didn’t like was how it felt like the end was so abrupt. As it’s a series I can understand that to some extent, but I wanted more closure.

The narration by Em Eldridge was good. I found that Aurora’s voice was a little too whiney for me, but I thought everyone else sounded appropriate. The production quality was good. I would recommend this novel to anyone who likes young adult fiction and a good vampire story with a science fiction twist. There is a lot of action and emotional events and I’m looking forward to the next novels in the series.

A unique take on the "Vampire Hunter".

    Any additional comments?

    An entertaining and engaging read.

First things first, I have to say that I loved the twist the author put on the Vampire Hunter!! I loved that it's her blood that is toxic and she isn't a "special" girl. I grew tired of the "girl wakes up only to realise that she is "special" story", so this was a refreshing change! Not only that, but it was the government who "made" her! She basically died, but because she had a certain blood type the government were able to inject her with vampire blood to reawaken her. To stop her from becoming a true vampire, she has to take an antidote and to receive that she has to comply with the government! So she is in a catch 22 situation. See, a unique and interesting take on an old myth.

Now onto Aurora. I loved her character. She is a typical smart girl, she is considered a goody two shoes by a lot of people, that is until she nearly dies, and then learns the truth of what she is and what she will have to do. She then becomes a kick ass, take no names, kind of gal, but not without a lot of work!! She was sassy, brave and yet her goodness shone through too. My heart broke for her and what she was feeling!

Then we have Fane. A gorgeous mysterious guy that would never normally give Aurora the time of day. But when she starts rebelling, he notices her and is drawn to her. But of course, he isn't all he seems either!! What will she do when she realises who he is??

I think my favourite character though was Dante! Auroras partner in crime. He was handsome, witty and I was secretly rooting for him and Aurora ;) But who she ends up with is something you have to find out for yourself!!! ;)

The setting was another major plus! How many vampire books have you read that are set in Alaska!!! The descriptive writing was amazing and I could picture the cold!

So anyway, I think you can tell that I enjoyed this!! Lol. From it's unique and intriguing plot, to it's lovable characters, Aurora Sky is a must read!! It's a fast paced and engrossing read and one that will leave you reeling. This is the type of book that once you start, you won't stop!! The author has created a world I didn't want to leave!!

I listened to the audio and had it finished within a day! I just had to keep listening to see what happened next. The narrator, Em, did an amazing job of breathing life into this story. Her rendition of Aurora was flawless. She captured her personality perfectly. I really can't wait to listen to the next edition of the series because it promises to be epic!

Teenage angst intensified by hijacked future

Instead of being able to escape home state and parental discord with college scholarship, Aurora is railroaded into experimental anti-vampire program after life-destroying auto accident. Book to be much enjoyed by 16-19 crowd, but I was out of the loop with all the high school interpersonal politics. Strong plot line and development. Characters are well defined and villains clearly easy to despise.
Audio performer did well in delineating who is who and in expressing Aurora's emotions.

Not what I was hoping for.

Was hoping for more badass vampire killer, got teenage highschool drama instead. Supposed to have a government super weapon and got all of 3 kills with no sign of enhanced abilities except that she can run for a long time. Just not what I was hoping for going in.

    Great Book!

    Any additional comments?

This is a great book written by Nikki Jefford; this is the first book in the Vampire Hunter series. Aurora Sky is eighteen years old and she can’t wait until she can leave her “iceberg” home. When she is in a near fatal car wreck everything changes. The government forces her to become a vampire hunter, she also finds out that her blood will paralyze a vampire giving her time to kill it. The characters in this book are great and you will love them. If you are looking for a great paranormal book then you need to read this book. I can’t wait until the next book comes out.

The narrator Em Eldridge did a great job with this book, and was very easy to listen to. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to in one sitting and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end.
If you are looking for a great book with great characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.

A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

    THIS WAS GREAT!!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Aurora Sky to be better than the print version?

Isn't it always? But I only listened!

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Aurora Skye!

What about Em Eldridge’s performance did you like?

    She was perfect...she nailed it!!!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This would make a great weekly series, like for the CW....or even a movie!

    Any additional comments?

** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

I do love YA...but lately have came across some that were a little to YA for me...This was perfect! I love Aurora!!!!

Aurora is a senior is high school...and she gets into a deadly car accident...She is rescued by a secret group who save her life, transfuse her with vampire blood and find out she is a special type of person....that her blood is deadly to Vampires...she is now a Vampire hunter, and she is not happy about this....her mom has to agree to this to save her daughters life and basically seals the deal for Aurora, and Aurora cannot back out....well she starts training and realizes she is now stronger and more in tune to things...and she goes though a mini wild phase...She meets a boy named Fane...and they are drawn to each other...he is actually a really great guy, but he is a Vampire...and this is a no no! Lots of good things in this book, great characters, an awesome story....and I loved it! The narrator was darn good too....on to book 2 for me!!! I recommend!!!!

    Thank You, Audiobookblast(dot)com

New twist on an old classic

I really enjoyed this book, finished it in one sitting!

I haven't read a YA book in quite a while, it was refreshing to read a book that didn't have sex in every chapter, which seems to be the new trend in adult books...

It's nice to see an author with an original idea; Or at least a different twist on one.

As the story progresses you see the characters develop and flourish. There isn't an over abundance of detail, but just enough to paint the picture and let your mind do the rest. The book is filled with a mix of humor, sarcasm, action, danger and even a little romance.

Add in obstacles like dysfunctional families and friends, sketchy government agents, Frankenstein-like experiments, vampires, hunters, and of course teenage lust - and you've got the makings of a great series!

I also really liked the setting. Alaska isn't a place I read about in books too often.

I can't wait to start the second book in the series! (mostly because of the crazy ending to this one... I must know what happens next!)

    Glad I finished

What made the experience of listening to Aurora Sky the most enjoyable?

    The narrator was very good.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Have actual, you know, vampire hunting in the book. All the cool vampire stuff seemed to take a back seat to weird high-school drama.

What about Em Eldridge’s performance did you like?

I felt like she captured Aurora well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

Originally I was about to give up about an hour in because I was bored. The book picked up a lot after that first hour. If I'd been reading the book, I'd have put it down and never finished, which is sad because I enjoyed it.

    I really enjoyed this book

Where does Aurora Sky rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I really liked Em Eldridge as a narrator. She brought life to the story which is important with paranormal books to me.

Which character – as performed by Em Eldridge – was your favorite?

I liked all the characters she did. I felt she performed really well with the male voices

    Any additional comments?

I liked this book. It was just the right length and I enjoyed the time spent. It ends on a cliffhanger but I'm excited to listen to the next book.
