Hey friends, it's Emily and Samie, and in this week’s episode of the Um, Sir Podcast, we’re bitter and not in the mood for institutional bullshit. We’re talking about a lot this week—like the brain-dead pregnant woman in Georgia being kept alive against her family’s wishes. We get into the medical ethics, the political theater, and the horrifying reality of what that looks like in practice (spoiler: it’s not just Sleeping Beauty in a hospital bed).We also talk about Washington State’s new clergy mandatory reporting law (yes, even if it’s said in confession), and why the Catholic Church is big mad about it. Meanwhile, the Quakers are out here being the real MVPs—marching for immigrant rights with 17th-century receipts in hand. Respect.Plus:✨ Deja Foxx came to Washington and gave us life✨ Redheads are Black now (Emily included—TikTok said so)✨ Annabelle might’ve set fire to a plantation✨ Ben & Jerry’s is fighting genocide harder than most of CongressWe said what we said. • Push Presents and Pro-Natalist Propaganda
    May 13 2025

We’re back—exhausted, angry, and wrapping up Mother’s Day weekend with a fresh round of attacks on reproductive rights, kids’ safety, and reality itself.

Trump cut the Safe to Sleep campaign (because who needs SIDS prevention?) while pushing pro-natalist policies like a $5,000 baby bonus. Emily’s just waiting on her presidential push present.

In Iowa, a Catholic hospital claimed life begins at conception—until it meant paying for a stillbirth. RFK Jr. keeps spreading ableist, anti-vax garbage, so we handed the mic to a fourth grader with autism who knows more science than he ever will.

We also dig into abortion funding cuts in Washington, the gutting of public trust, and a new child labor protection bill (because yes, that's still a fight in 2025). Oh—and we have thoughts on the whole "parental rights" charade.

It’s all starting to feel like satire—but we’re still here—deciding whether to laugh or cry.

  • White Claw Wednesday, Washington Edition
    May 9 2025

Emily and Samie are back—hydrated and furious, and here to provide a breakdown of the good, bad, and ugly from the 2025 Washington State legislative session.

💥 THE GOOD: Washington lawmakers did pass six Planned Parenthood priority bills!

💸 THE BAD: The final state budget increased capital gains and business taxes (cool), but also jacked up the gas tax (regressive, unnecessary, and dumb). Even worse? They cut $8.5 million from the Abortion Access Fund—because why invest in actual care when you promise protection?

THE UGLY: Instead of taxing the ultra-wealthy, the state legislature threw the burden onto working people and gutted services. It was a zero-sum game, and no matter which party you sided with, in the end, we all lost.

    Also on the roast list:

    • Marie Gluesenkamp Perez’s SAVE Act vote (yikes)

    • Creepy Republican speeches about bathroom policies and parental rights.

    • Ferguson’s milquetoast budget review promises

    • And schools removing stall doors to stop kids from vaping (???)

Every kid deserves safety, privacy, and the freedom to be themselves—and lawmakers who can tell the difference between parental rights and performative cruelty.

🎟️ Upcoming: Don’t forget to grab your tickets for “Drinks, Dissent, and Defiance” on May 15 in Seattle, hosted by Planned Parenthood. Come for the solidarity, stay for the shame spiral.

    Apr 25 2025

We're serving up political despair with sarcasm and puppy kisses.

💸 D.C.’s Budget Strategy:Cut Medicaid, gut the CDC, and then act surprised when everything catches fire. Also, they think hospital funding is a “kickback.” Cute.

Maternal Mortality Up, Help Down:Pregnancy-related deaths are skyrocketing. Meanwhile, government officials are playing Jenga with programs meant to prevent this. Pro-life? More like pro-birth, then ghost.

Immigration WTFs:People are getting deported or detained for writing op-eds or just... existing. El Salvador’s like “not our problem” and ICE is vibing their way through civil rights.

SAVE Act = Pay-to-Vote:New bill wants you to bring a passport to register to vote. So... democracy now requires $200 and six weeks of paperwork. Cool cool.

Tax Logic by Rich White Dudes™:Poor folks pay interest, rich folks earn it. Jeff Bezos wins again.

AI or A1?Linda McMahon confused artificial intelligence with steak sauce. That’s it. That’s the tweet.

Bonus LOL:Laura Ingraham once had a vanity plate that said “FARRGHT.” Yes, it reads as “fart.” Political branding, but make it gas-powered.

Ya' girls are in peak petty form this week as we dive into a whirlwind of politics, immigration injustice, economic chaos, and pop culture pettiness—with our usual sass.🎙️ This week on The Um, Sir Podcast…Trump’s treating the national economy like it’s his Monopoly board—except we’re the ones landing on luxury tax. Again.A Maryland man was wrongfully deported to El Salvador and left in a max-security prison—right before Kristi Noem popped in for a PR stunt with her $60K Rolex. Did she rescue him? Of course not. She’s too busy murdering puppies and democracy. But good news since recording, he's alive! Tariffs are wrecking our wallets. Retirement accounts are crashing. And apparently, if you’re broke, it’s your fault for not saving during the last 30 years of chaos.Meanwhile, a judge in Alabama reminded us that free speech and bodily autonomy still technically exist. For now... Viva Las Vegas! Also: Serena Joy’s finally on our side in Handmaid’s Tale, but don’t get too cozy—she’s still the worst. Much like the real-life MAGA women, realizing too late that rights aren’t just for brunch.🎉 Upcoming Event: Come hang at “Drinks, Dissent, and Defiance” with Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates on May 15 in Seattle. Get your tickets HERE! Leave us a voicemail at 1-888-416-2018, boycott shit that sucks, fight for reproductive and immigrant justice, and above all—be petty and nice. 💅Read: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says Americans ready to retire aren’t worried about ‘day-to-day’ market fluctuations. - NBC NewsElon Musk hopes for ‘zero-tariff situation’ between US and EU - CNNTrump's tariffs list is missing one big country: Russia - AxiosFederal Court Rules People Cannot be Prosecuted for Helping Pregnant Alabamians Obtain Out-of-State Abortions - ACLUDoJ lawyer put on leave after not backing erroneous deportation of US man - The GuardianListen: NPR MarketPlaceWatch:What we know about Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man mistakenly deported to El Salvador - NBC NewsMiguel Angel Pastrana - TikTokJoe Rogan on Gay Hairdresser - TikTokKristi Noem: How Far is Far Enough? 🎙️ This week on The Um, Sir Podcast

We’re trying to look on the bright side — but clearly the Republicans on the House DOGE Committee skipped their lessons from Mr. Rogers and forgot how to get to Sesame Street. 🙃

🧀 There’s actual good news out of Wisconsin (miracles happen), Cory Booker brings a glimmer of hope from New Jersey, and Trump is tossing out tariffs like he’s hosting a twisted version of Oprah’s Favorite Things.

📦 Meanwhile, Samie’s got updates on Project 2025 — spoiler: the grind is real, but somehow the GOP is still flunking the group project.

Tune in for politics with a side of sass, and a reminder that absurdity is bipartisan. ✌️

Because what’s a week without gutting DEI, a Texas lawsuit, and casual segregation vibes?

    🔥 IN THIS EPISODE:

🌈 Tree Planting as DEI?? Is this feel-good greenwashing or a real move toward equity? We dig in. 🌳

⚖️ Texas + Reproductive Rights = 🚨A legal case that could shift the landscape—again. We explain why it matters (and rant a little, obviously).

🏫 Education Budget Cuts: Guess who’s coming for your kids' funding? We name names and throw a little side-eye. 👀

📜 Federal Contract Shenanigans: New rules on segregated facilities...yeah, in 2025. We know.

💥 All this, plus the usual ego pops, sarcasm, and "Did they really say that?!" moments.
