When a crew of interstellar freight haulers have their storage of food go bad, they send out a distress call for help, which is offered by the citizens of a colony on Mars. They sell the crew a wub -- a pig-like creature, capable of speech and thought, and therefore able to try and convince the Earthlings not to eat it. Will the starving spacemen be able to put the wub's humanity before their own needs?
