  • Health Stigma
    Apr 28 2025
We discuss stigma associated with ill health. We talk about this frequently in our group chat. Why is illness stigmatised? Why do we blame ourselves when we’re diagnosed with an illness? Why do we try to find “reasons” that either we ourselves, or someone we know, has been diagnosed with an illness. Does the “wellness” industry have a role to play? What role does alternative, complimentary and integrative medicine play in all of this? We dive into this topic drawing from both our personal and professional experiences and insights.

  • Weight Loss Medications
    Apr 28 2025
“Weight loss shots”, “GLPs”, “Skinny Jabs” and “Zempie”. You’ve seen these on your FYP, explore page and in the headlines. These are phrases used for weight loss medications, glucagon like peptide agonists, such as such Ozempic (semaglutide), Wegovy (semaglutide) and Monjouro (tirzepatide); these are in the headlines daily. The narrative can be sensational when it comes to so called “skinny jabs”. We go behind the headlines and discuss the real life experiences of people who live, or who have lived with obesity, without sensationalism. We give a full 360 view on these GLP1 agonist medications; Dr. Niamh who takes Ozempic, in discussion with Dr. Cathy, a fellow paediatrician, who also takes it, discusses her experience, whilst Dr. Maire and Dr. Doireann discuss their experiences prescribing the mediation.
