    • Leadership Gift - Wisdom of the Year (S01E07)
      May 25 2024

This episode is a culmination of reflective insights and powerful leadership strategies from the Institute. We distilled their experiences into essential lessons covering the spectrum from embracing change and ethical decision-making to transformative strategies for customer-first service and agile management. Our gifts are designed to inspire leaders to integrate these breakthroughs into their own practice, enhancing their ability to navigate the complexities of leading in the digital era.

Hans Gillior from Sweden gives us his perspective on agile transformation, and the requisite alignment with business contexts, a challenge faced by many modern organizations.

Chef Frank Granito offered the "three D's of leadership" - decide, delegate, disappear - demonstrating the trust in letting the team run with a project, as gleaned from his culinary experience.

Whynde Kuehn walks us through the transformative power of following one's intuition and the crucial step of letting go of unaligned commitments. Her trip to Australia stands as a beacon of successful alignment, urging leaders to listen to their hearts and chase after those positively aligned, if seemingly crazy, ideas.

Ray Sheen discusses the management of digital transformation as a system that involves people, processes, and technology, providing a blueprint for ensuring these components are in sync for successful transformation activities.

Roy Atkinson takes us on a journey through his experiences with influential leaders, unpacking the ethical values that have shaped his leadership philosophy, and discussing the balance of justice and mercy in decision-making, invaluable in shaping fair and compassionate leadership.

Jessica Carroll shares her insights on creating a premier customer experience through a steadfast customer-first mindset, with six principles directing employee behavior to serve and support customers effectively.

Nora Osman shared three gifts of leadership, emphasizing leadership as a privilege, the continuous journey of learning and growth, and the cultivation of authenticity, boldness, and compassion.

Chuck Papageorgiou elaborates on the key competencies required for a chief digital officer, offering a comprehensive skillset that ranges from business acumen to cross-functional leadership.

Jeff Ton brings to light the power of celebrating victories, big and small. He shares a poignant example from his experience that underscores the importance of recognizing achievements to maintain momentum and team morale.

John Palinkas touched on the essence of having the courage to lead, particularly when you are the lowest level in the room, and the importance of involving employees in decision-making.

Robert Field shared the true gift of leadership is the art of being present, not just in position, but with intention, attention, and action. In the power of the moment, where authentic connections are made, the impactful decisions are taken, and genuine progress is achieved.

      The following recorded a gift:

Aleta Jeffress emphasized the significance of creating "space" in leadership, highlighting the necessity to carve out room for learning, reflection, rest, and meaningful interactions.

Patti Blackstaffe discussed the impact of disruptive technology, emphasizing the need for adaptive governance, and the critical role of transparency and collaboration in modern businesses.

Reynaldo Lugtu Jr. conveyed the top three leadership learnings of the year: the power of listening, the pursuit of continuous learning, and the art of living in the present moment.

It is our sincere hope that the leadership gifts discussed today resonate with you, our valued listeners, instilling a renewed sense of purpose as you navigate your own leadership journeys. May these lessons empower you to create a lasting impact, not only within your organizations but in every facet of your lives.

    • Be the Leader Without the Crystal Ball (S01E06)
      May 25 2024

Our host, 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱, along with esteemed guests 𝗥𝗶𝘁𝗮 𝗝. 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗳𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻𝘀, and 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗠𝗰𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘆, share some in-depth revelations about managing change in the digital era. From the importance of internal wiring over generational demographics to embracing mistakes as growth opportunities, our panel covers an array of vital topics.

Here's what you can expect from this enlightening exchange:

      • Spotlights on understanding personalities and managing resistance within the team when driving organizational change.
      • Explorations of how instinct and rational logic can help leaders balance the overwhelming nature of change.
      • Reflections on the importance of listening to diverse perspectives, including minority voices, to drive successful transformations.
      • Practical advice and recommended resources for leaders facing change.

In one highlight, Stefanie Krievins advocates for a proactive approach to change management, driven by instinct as much as logic. On the other hand, Rita J. King articulates the challenge of managing the enormity of change and harmonizing humans with technology. And Alex McBratney underscores the importance of understanding your team's dynamics to manage resistance to change effectively.

"𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: 'The reality is that organizations don't change. People do. And so change management in the digital era, to me, is about getting your people to change their habits, to get them to adopt your new technology that you invest heavily in so that the company can actually leverage it. And individuals are responsible for engaging themselves in the change versus company leaders.'" — Stefanie Krievins

"𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: It's a lot of wishful thinking. Some people wishing the change wasn't happening, other people wishing the change was happening faster. But in the end, you have to be realistic about people and these thinking of these things as huge changes, then what ends up happening is, a lot of times, leaders miss their opportunity to be cross functional, like Alex was saying."

"𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: If you're trying to lead a team and you don't know the personalities of your team and have an understanding on their resistance to change, or maybe someone wants too much change and is always looking to make things new and change things around, which can affect the whole team, it can affect the whole organization." — Alex McBratney

"𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: As leaders, we sometimes don't always grow up in an industry where maybe my leader didn't listen to me. It's become a very important part of what I do is listen to everybody around me, and that's how you have that learning mindset." — Robert Field
