  • #35 Fallout 4
    May 27 2024

‘Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullsh*t every goddamn time’

Yes, like most of the gaming world, I decided to head back into Bethesda's 2015 dystopian RPG after watching the Fallout series on Amazon Prime.

Bethesda itself seems to have come under a lot of scrutiny since they were purchased by Xbox. Just last week news broke that multiple of their studios would be closing, including Tango Gameworks, the creators of Hi-Rush and Arkane Austin, the creators of Redfall. In addition, the divisive nature of Starfield and the apparent failure of Fallout 76, leave many gamers questioning if Bethesda still has the charm and magic of the days of Skyrim and the earlier Fallout games.

However, after watching the Fallout show, it reminded me how special, weird and wonderful this universe is and had me chomping like a Ghoul on recently rotting flesh, to get back into its universe.

So, let's discuss if Bethesda still has the secret RPG sauce and why I decided to play Fallout 4 and not the beloved Fallout: New Vegas in this week’s episode of the Beat Your Backlog Podcast.

    Apr 29 2024

This week we are aboard the starship Fedora 1, stranded at the bottom of the ocean on an alien planet, in Slowbros' magnificent hand crafted game Harold Halibut.

This game is an absolute must play and is my favourite game of 2024 so far, so make sure you check it out!

If you’re in the mood to experience another narrative driven indie game with a unique art style, check out episode 27 of the podcast where I review Goodbye Volcano High.

  • #32 Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun
    Apr 11 2024

This week I ‘suffer not the heretic to live’ in Warhammer 40K:Boltgun by Auroch Digital and Focus Entertainment.

You may know this game as the DOOM-like 'boomer-shooter' set in the Warhammer 40K universe.

Though the game looks visually stunning and seems a no-brainer for the mix of doom FPS and Warhammer 40K, is it actually any good?

If you enjoyed this episode and you’re in the mood to list to another review about an FPS that didn't live up to its potential, check out episode 13 and my review of Redfall.

Venba just won the Seumas Mcnally Grand Prize at the Independent Game Festival but what is the game about and is it worth knocking off your backlog? Let's find out in this week's episode.

In addition, I also give you my impressions of the SandLand demo that was recently released.

  • # 29 Metroid Prime Remastered
    Mar 11 2024

Having seen the remaster’s high scores, enjoying most of my time with Metroid Dread and trying to get myself hyped up for Metroid Prime 4, I decided I should finally try out Metroid Prime for the very first time.

I was interested to know, is the game really that good or is its acclaim based on nostalgia critics and fans have from when they played the original back in 2002?

Let’s find out in this week’s episode of the Beat Your Backlog podcast.

  • #28 Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Fallen DLC
    Feb 28 2024

We return to my game of the year for 2023 this week in the new Final Fantasy XVI DLC, Echoes of the Fallen. It felt great to return to the world of Valisthea and get back into the awesome story of Clive, Jill and Joshua.

But since there has been six months or so since the game's release and the DLC coming out, is it worth your time to go back to?

Let's discuss in this week's episode.

If you have played Final Fantasy XVI already, are you planning to play the Echoes of the Fallen DLC?
