À propos de ce contenu audio

J.J. Reneaux uses her folksy charm and personal stories as bridges between traditional tales she relates with that spark of Cajun spice. This delightful collection of children's stories and songs of the South features 12 traditional tales and songs drawn from the diverse Southern heritage: Cajun, Creole, African-American, Scots-Irish, and native American. The authentic Southern storytelling is accentuated by a variety of music and instruments. Guitar, mandolin, fiddle, Cajun triangle, and spoon percussion provide that down-home musical feeling.

    Avis de l'équipe

Author and narrator J. J. Reneaux pays homage to the South with this unusual book. Reneaux shares these delightful classic tales and songs in her sleepy Lousiana drawl. The narratives and ditties are wrapped in her lush personal reminisces of growing up in the South. Much like other Southern offerings, these stories and songs have diverse roots in Cajun, Creole, Scotch-Irish, African-American, and Native-American traditions and wisdoms. Old-timey Southern folk music adds punch and an antique regional flavor. The music is too assertive to be background music, and that is a good thing. The music functions like an omniscient narrator; it hovers above and drives Reneaux’s fine narrative performance.
