In a matter of weeks, Massachusetts has been overrun by an insidious rabies-like virus that is spread by saliva. But unlike rabies, the disease has a terrifyingly short incubation period of an hour or less. Those infected quickly lose their minds and are driven to bite and infect as many others as they can before they inevitably succumb. Hospitals are inundated with the sick and dying, and hysteria has taken hold. To try to limit its spread, the commonwealth is under quarantine and curfew. But society is breaking down, and the government's emergency protocols are faltering.

That she got into Sinegard - the most elite military school in Nikan - was even more surprising.

A wonderful break-out novel for Jonathan Sims
If capitalist gothic was a genre, this would be the centerpiece work. It is masterfully read and paced, I couldn't wait to get back to listening after each pause. The different voices for the different characters definitely helped to keep the story interesting and keep the threads clear as the story progressed. Spooky and still very touching. I am definitely going out to purchase a physical copy to keep this one in my library. I can't wait to see your next book Mr. Sims!

capitalist nightmare becomes literal
a great melting together of different forms of horror both familiar and new. The intertwining of the various storylines is wonderfully done and the use of individual voice acting for each character vignette makes characterization and following the separate tales easy.

Fantastic!
Immensely well written and well performed! I'm very happy I spent the extra money to purchase the audio as well as the written work. The style of the recordings makes them incredibly engaging and really enhances the horror and storytelling. Jonathan Simms is an incredible writer and I encourage everyone who is interested in horror writing to check out his other works, especially the Magnus Archives.

Capitalist Horror Stories
A great collection of urban horror stories, strung together by a theme of the modern and common terrors most of us are familiar with but try to tune out. The different performances are a pleasure to listen to and add a lot of character to their stories and the finale. My only small gripe would be with said finale, which succeeds in delivering catharsis but destroys most of the ambiguity and mystery the previous vignettes have successfully built up. Although, this is hardly a deal breaker and the book is still very much worth listening to. P.S Fans of the Magnus Archive will feel right at home.

Gory horror and yet kind of wholesome
This book has just about everything I could have wished for: Sometines scary, sometimes gory horror, casually queer caracters, criticism of capitalism and a satisfying ending, plus a cast of great and really varied voice actors. I really enjoyed it and will go now to shout praise for it off all the rooftops available to me!
