Description

To the outside world, Electra D’Aplièse seems to be the woman with everything: as one of the world’s top models, she is beautiful, rich and famous.

Yet beneath the veneer, Electra’s already tenuous control over her state of mind has been rocked by the death of her father, Pa Salt, the elusive billionaire who adopted his six daughters from across the globe. Struggling to cope, she turns to alcohol and drugs. As those around her fear for her health, Electra receives a letter from a complete stranger who claims to be her grandmother.

In 1939, Cecily Huntley-Morgan arrives in Kenya from New York to nurse a broken heart. Staying with her godmother, a member of the infamous Happy Valley set, on the shores of beautiful Lake Naivasha, she meets Bill Forsythe, a notorious bachelor and cattle farmer with close connections to the proud Maasai tribe. But after a shocking discovery and with war looming, Cecily has few options. Moving up into the Wanjohi Valley, she is isolated and alone. Until she meets a young woman in the woods and makes her a promise that will change the course of her life for ever.

Sweeping from Manhattan to the magnificent wide-open plains of Africa, The Sun Sister is the sixth instalment in Lucinda Riley’s multi-million selling epic series, The Seven Sisters.

Not finished yet but...

Having much apreciated the other sisters, I was impatient to read this one! But with all the bad comments above, I was rather put off! Happily, my sister convinced me to try it and I must admit I do not agree at all with the negative comments on the narrator! I’m just at the beginning so I cannot have a full opinion on the story. I just know that I’m already counting the minutes whenever I have to wait to listen to it!

I can't listen to this! Narrator is terrible!

I have enjoyed this series for 5 books and was awaiting the 6th book, to be shocked at the quality of the narration and that just ruined the entire story.

Disappointing

Compared to previous audiobooks in this series, The Sun Sister just does not hold up. The story is dull, blunt, very drawn out and predictable. There is nothing magical in this one, unlike in the rest of the series. Narrator’s voice for Electra very irritating. Happy that it is over - and yes, I have no curiosity about the last sister.

Not worth the wait!

Very disappointing! Dull, drawn out, juvenile, and lacking the in depth history of previous books.

I love the seven sister series, until this one.

I am on chapter 24 and having a hard time. The narrator for Electra is terrible. So far, the story is only drugs and alcohol abuse. The past located in Kenya is better, but not nearly the quality of Ms Riley's other books. I was so excited to get book #6, now pretty disappointed. I'll finish the story, if it gets any better I'll let you know.
Ok, finished it. Way below the writings in previous 7 sister books. Too much in your face political, woke, references. Really, How many times can you slip in Obama?
I'm anxious to hear about sister #7! I was disappointed to not have a sighting of Pasalt in this one.
Please, do not use same narrator!!!! This one was torture to listen to!

How to make a boring book even more boring

Use the wrong narrator.
I cant believe how bad this is - absolutely loved all the previous books in the series.
Really a bad effort - had expected so much more.

Disappointment on every level

This was dull, slow and the Narrator sounded like she was half asleep all the time. Nothing like the first 5 books in the series. Awful. Only finished so I would have the facts for book 7.

You won't be able to listen to this with your kids

I'm halfway through this book and it is absolutely horrible. The language is "R" rated, which I don't remember from Riley's other books. I get that she's trying to show Electra's character (which isn't very good), but dropping the f-bomb every other page, along with other language, means that I can't listen to this with my children around. It is really bad. There is also a lot of inappropriate sexual content and drug use. My husband overheard some of it and he was like, "what are you listening to!?" One of my pet-peeves is when non-American authors feel called upon to air their opinions on American politics. I wish they would mind their own beeswax. Do you live here? No? Well then, maybe you should stick to political commentary on your own country. Ugh.
Also, the narrator is awful. Electra is supposed to have grown up in Switzerland, but she sounds like she's from the ghetto of Los Angeles.

Could’ve done without the politics...

I liked the characters, but I felt this one was pushing a political agenda. I wanted to tell the characters, “You know you’re going to regret fawning all over that arrogant, divisive man just because of his race.” Those who are aware will understand.
