New York Times bestseller, Wall Street Journal Best Book of the Year, and soon to be a major motion picture, this unforgettable novel of love and strength in the face of war has enthralled a generation.

With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

    Avis de l'équipe

Editors Select, February 2015 - I haven't listened to a book as moving or as heart-wrenching as The Nightingale in a long time. Set in France during WWII, Kristin Hannah's tale follows two sisters as they fight against the Nazis in very different, but equally important, ways. The young, vivacious, and impetuous Isabelle believes she has little in common with her older sister, Vianne, but the two possess a bravery and willful determination that few could match. Hannah’s novel kept me engaged with brief, mysterious sojourns to the 1990s amidst her 1940s narrative, effortlessly traveling between the United States, Paris, and the French countryside. This story has stayed with me all year, and I’m thrilled that it’s Audible’s Best Book of 2015. —Katie, Audible Editor

The plot is wonderfully contrived . The reader remains spellbound to the very end . The whole story makes you vibrate and proves to be deeply moving . A real testimony of bravery and abnegation.

Beautifully written and read; a heart wrenching story of incredible women who were such an important and even vital part of the resistance. Fabulous book. Let these heroines never no forgotten.

At first I thought this book was too sickly sweet and wasn’t sure I’d like it. After giving it a second chance, i became drawn into the story and never looked back. The story told simultaneously by both sisters is raw and personal and your empathize with both of their thoughts and actions - making you wonder what you would do in the same situation. It is an homage to the women’s strength in these inhumanely cruel and unimaginably impossible times. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and it’s honest telling of feelings and events that may well have taken place.

    Eye opening

This book should be obligatory in schools. It vividly and realistically describes the horrors of war the citizens of occupied France endured during WWII. The daily fear, the cruelty of the occupier, the horrible living conditions during wartime, the extermination of the Jews, the inhumane treatment of the French and other prisonners but mostly the courage of the people of the resistance who risked their own lives to rescue ally pilots, children of deported jews and many others. This book should be read by the members of the GOP that stand by the actual president of the US. it might open their eyes and remind them why NATO was created

    A grasping story

Repeated cliches, some characters don’t age, not accurate description of 2WW France. The story didn’t do for me sadly. Don’t understand the buzz around this.

Structure of the story is okay
