    Description

Thirty young women. A handsome prince. A battle to the death.

Water is scarce. Deserts have taken over the land. Nuclear war has devastated humanity. Humans live in walled super cities to keep out the irradiated. The land that was formerly known as America is divided into kingdoms ruled by royal elites.

Born into the lowest Echelon of the Kingdom of Phangloria, 16-year-old Zea Calico faces a life of hunger, thirst, and toil. The only way out of this drudgery is revolution, and Zea is desperate to help the cause.

When the palace calls for candidates to compete to marry Prince Kevon, Zea joins the Princess Trials to search the palace for weaknesses.

The trials should be a fairytale of sumptuous meals, ballgowns, and romance, but one misplaced word causes Zea to attract the Prince’s attention. When Zea uncovers the man beneath Prince Kevon’s public facade, she is at risk of falling in love and losing sight of her mission.

But the televised beauty pageant turns deadly, and Zea must fight for survival.

Perfect for fans of The Hunger Games and The Selection, this exciting tale of courage, intrigue, and betrayal will have you listening for hours.

A blend of the Selection and the Hunger Games

If you like both The Hunger Games and The Selection, but favor The hunger Games, this book is 100% for you! The book is clean with pretty much nonexistent swear words, no physical intimacy, a ton of action, and plot twists that keep you guessing! I thought the narrator was okay. But she wasn't my favorite. I really did enjoy this book and will get the next one.

    HOWEVER.....

I really wish there was more of the love story. It was basically, an afterthought and I didn't get near enough of the Prince. I hope the next book has more!

Didn't think I would enjoy at first

This was so much like the selection in the first 10 chapters. After that the story started to remind me much of the red queen. Especially in the class system and the different sectors. But I like that it focused less on romance and more on this Zia's experiences during the selection. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book.

    Narrator is not the best

Don’t like the narrator. She’s lacking in delivery and emotions. And her voice and delivery doesn’t fit the character that gets portrayed in the story.

Action packed but lacks the love story

I wish there was more of a love story. The book is action packed in the second half. The reader is great.

A story with two left feet

The story is clumsy + at times, illogical, but Suspense + confusion carried me through to the end pleasantly enough to purchase book 2. A good read if your desperate for this kind of tale, otherwise it’s a pass.

    ok... I guess

This story takes 30 chapters to tell when It could have been done in 15. Zia's actions are very wishy and she swoons over a guy she was only with for the first chapter. It was painful to finish, but the bare bones of the story is good and so you suffer through to see if it goes like you hope it will.

    Brilliant Surprise

What an amazing blend of Hunger Games and The Selection! I found myself so invested in the story and characters! The tension was delightfully unbearable sometimes! Stacey Glemboski’s narration is perfect. Her reading is heartfelt and I found myself wowing her several times! I need to read the next!

    What I thought about it

This was my first book read by this author though I found it to be quite good. Though in few parts the story became familiar to others I read and not as thrilling as other parts. Without that in mind I would 100% recommend, just keep in mind some point will seem familiar.

    A Guilty Pleasure Read

The book was a fun guilty pleasure read. I had a lot of fun reading it, but there are some odd, cheesy scenes that were meant to be dramatic or romantic but were just funny to me. I got a kick out of ranting to my husband about the funny bits and the intricate plot line. I wouldn't say this is a great book, but if you want a fun, interesting read, then this is it!
