    Description

It’s summer in New York City, and antique shop owner Sebastian Snow is taking the next big step in his relationship with homicide detective, Calvin Winter: They’re moving in together. What should have been a wonderful week of playing house and celebrating Calvin’s birthday comes to an abrupt end when a mysterious package arrives at the Emporium. Inside is a Thomas Edison Kinetoscope, a movie viewer from the 19th century, invented by the grandfather of modern cinema, W. K. L. Dickson. And along with it, footage of a murder that took place over a hundred years ago.

Sebastian resists the urge to start sleuthing, even if the culprit is long dead and there’s no apparent danger. But break-ins at the Emporium, a robbery, and dead bodies aren’t as easy to ignore, and Sebastian soon realizes that the century-old murder will lead him to a modern-day killer.

Even with Sebastian’s vast knowledge of Victorian America and his unrelenting perseverance in the face of danger, this may be the one mystery he won’t survive.

    You’ ve totally screwed me...(WHY?!!!?)

I was totally hooked up until you switched character readers. Now I can’t get into the third book. With that change I can’t even give a thought the content on the story line. Please, get my original readers back.

    Disappointing narrator

As usual, C.S. Poe storyline is entertaining and interaction between characters totally believable.

The narrator's voice choices missed the mark. It sounded as if Sebastisn had a lisp in the early chapters! Voice changes between Sebastian and Neil characters were hard to distinguish.

    Disappointed

I absolutely love this series and this book. It’s a fun story to read and I was hyped to get to listen to it, even though the narrator had changed. I’ve listened to other series with a change in narrator and there wasn’t a problem there. The problem here is that this narrator doesn’t have a distinct voice for any of the characters. Not only can I not distinguish the character’s voices, I can’t even tell male from female. I am really struggling to finish it.
I’m sorry CS. I’ll just have to continue this series on my iPad. I miss Derrick!

    The narrator sounds angry

The new narrator just sounds angry as if he’s shouting the story. His characterizations really miss the mark and make the story very difficult to listen to.

    Cal & Seb

I adore this series - Calvin Winters and Sebastian Show are two of my favorite characters. As usual Sebastian accidentally falls into a mystery that pulls his boyfriend into. Not only is Cal involved, but is ex, Neil, is sucked in as well. I love how meticulously the Snow & Winter books are researched. The author always manages to sneak a history lesson wrapped inside a great story. My only complaint is the narrator. I just wasn't feeling his vocalizations of the characters, particularly Calvin.

    hm...

speaker sounds so different than the last two books, I liked the deeper voice, sounded better for Calvin. But here the emotions are acted out better.

Story is okay to fine, BUT i wish Sebastian wouldn't always have to point out how unattracted he is to women and every woman in the Snow Winter books is somehow dumb or lazy or tacky. I get it, he is gay but he can be gay and women still awesome.

Sebastian was very aggressive in this one, doesn't quite match how he came across previously.
