Unbelievable series

First review I have ever written, but I wanted to give kudos to the author and narrator. Hard to believe that Dr. Kong was writing this in the evenings while still maintaining a busy physician practice during the day. Despite being self-published, the book was remarkably polished and the creativity and depth of The Land is truly something to behold (the next 6 books are just as good). And Nick Podehl's ability to create specific voices for all of the characters, then maintain those flawlessly throughout the lengthy books is Oscar-worthy.

Wow, it's been a while.

So it has been a while since I've read a book like this. I can't even begin to explain the mental focused that this audio book envokes from me. The characters are so realistic, the main character especially, he is someone I can really relate to at least 70%. The story makes me curious and puts me on edge. I do have question but I have faith that they will be answered in the upcoming issues. Issues that I will be investing in as it is absolutely worth it.

Feels Like A Real Life Game

It’s a really great book.

It feels like the main character is in a vast world filled with thousands of creatures. This book sort of reminded me of the game “Breath of the Wild” The adventure and action in this book is fantastic.

I know some people hate the lists but it’s pretty fun to know the information of the weapons and the creatures. As I said before it kind of feels like a Zelda game. In addition the part where it says “who are you again?” Always cracks me up.

Not What I Expected, but SO GOOD!!!

When people think of a novel they many times see the normal arc of intro, conflict, climax, and resolution. This book takes that concept and throws it to the wind! It builds upon it self with many different stories, all having there own arcs, all at once. These stories intertwine in a way that feels natural and fluid. Also if you are like me and love to see things grow from humble beginnings to something spectacular than you will absolutely love this book!

Where has this been my whole life!

I cannot believe i have never heard of this genre and book before. The author has such a genuine feel for his story and it's refreshing to see a story without compromises.Anyone who is a fan of games, fantasy, anime or just really good story telling will love this series.

Stellar Narration! Style tailored to Gamers

I'm a gamer. I drove from Oregon to New Jersey in a week... and driving 10 hours a day was boring! I listened to 3 books, a ton of NPR and I was looking for something different. I missed my games!

I already listened to another litrpg, the GOD AWFUL, "Tamer: King of Dinosaurs" and needed to try something proven... not what was clearly a grown man's pathetic teenage sex fantasy.

I was not disappointed by this book.

Hear me out. If you're a gamer you'll know what I'm talking about: Sometimes when you're playing games more than living a normal life, gaming elements start to incorporate into your dreams. You'll have a top-down view, a HUD, or an inventory in your dreams. Sometimes you'll loot something like a tree stump in the middle of nightmare, and when you wake up... you kind of wish you were still dreaming. When games mix into your dreams, you get the best out of both the real world and the virtual world!

That's what makes LitRPG so cool!

The main character gets sucked into a world governed by game mechanics, and rather than (more realistically) lament losing everything he's ever known or loved... he just sort of rolls with it! Haha! "Hmmm that was wierd. Ooh there's a person with a quest notification over her head... guess I better check it out!" Weeks later he's made friends, started a village, and only occasionally has he reminisced about his old Earth life... not ONCE does he ask, how did I get here and how the fuck do I get out? He's pretty much in heaven.

It does get a little exhausting listening to each and every stat block listed out... or all the loot descriptions... but like I said, the narrator is stellar. Occasionally I wondered if they got a different actor for certain characters... but no, he's just that versatile.

This is not Game of Thrones. This is not Harry Potter... This is like... maybe an manga novella?? I've never read one of those sooooo yeah. This is light reading to say the least. Young Adult for sure... but fun enough for this 37 y.o. gamer ;)

the narrator made me feel like I was in the story

I quite enjoyed the first book of the series. It was a very interesting book. My favorite moment was probably when Richter stole all the belongings from the Baron.
I quite enjoyed listening the narrator. The narrator did such a good job. I felt like I was in the story, traveling with the characters step-by-step, feeling what they felt.

New to audio books - It blew my mind how good!

I have a long commute for work and decided to try audio books. After looking at suggestions then I seen the reviews for this book, and wondered if they really could be this good... as I am new to this genre of books then I did not know what to expect.

It is without doubt some of the most creative writing I have come across, humorous, witty, drama and romance, all brought together by the narrator who does a brilliant job in bringing to life this book. It has made me enjoy the commute to work and anywhere else I can now listen to this and I am now on book 4 and can't wait to listen to books 5-7.

It is best money I have spend in years and totally worth the $'s. Congrats to Aleron Kong who in my mind should have more recognition for this outstanding work.

Toller Sprecher, schlechter Autor

Also ein erzähltes Online-Rollenspiel. Mitsamt Stufenanstieg, Werten, Quests, Loot, etc.

Fazit: Toller Sprecher, Geschichte okay, Charaktere charakterlos.

Was mich zu meinem größten Kritikpunkt bringt:

Excessively brutal, slow pace, over the top

LitRPG bingo: - Building a town: Check - Magical tree: Check - Brutality and rape: Check - Morally ambiguous protagonist: Check - Takes one full book to clear a dungeon: Check - "His mouth dropped open when reading his notifications"-Occasions every 5 minutes: Check I've listened to quite a few LitRPG series on Audible recently. This one has quite a few torture, mutilation and rape scenes in it, which I didn't really appreciate. Also many many bad dick jokes. The protagonist is your typical power-hungry american guy, who walks into epic quests and world-events all the time - mostly just by chance. Story progression is awfully slow at times and a single combat might take a dozen chapters to finish. I always had the feeling the protagonist got his priorities somewhat wrong as he spends more time crafting his own weapons than actually administrating his village. "The Land" does have some quite unique and interesting characters though and I did actually end up listening to all 7 currently released books in the Chaos Seeds series. If you can stomach the gritty parts and don't mind the somewhat epic proportions and an ever-growing "to-do-list" this actually has it's good moments. Also Nick Podehl is a brilliant narrator. No complaints there.

First audio book I did not return

Initially, I started to use Audible for my son - Then I thought I could also try to find something good to listen to & I tried several books, but they all bored me. Whether it was the storyline itself of the narrator... Something never was right & I ended up returning book after book, I even canceled my subscription...

And then, I don`t know how I found it, I ended up with this one - ... And this the first book that really caught my attention & interest! Yay.
So yeah, I like the storyline & Nick is a great narrator. Strongly recommended :)

something new

I love the gamer focus and Nick Podehl is really doing a great job. I am hoping however that the main character shows more Dept in the next book. All in all a fun read/listen with a truly unique twist to fantasy.

The first tries of LitRPG

Aleron Kong started the genre of LitRPG, so it is forgivable that this is not on par with current authors - they could learn from his mistakes. I quite like the genre but in this book 10% is the endlessly repeating of meaningless stats. The story has some inconsistencies and, as mentioned before, only a rudimentary start of LitRPG. Don't expect an RPG like world coming true, it is more like a kid playing a game and telling you what he did.
