Welcome my friends!

Welcome...to "The Land!"

Tricked into a world of banished gods, demons, goblins, sprites and magic, Richter must learn to meet the perils of The Land and begin to forge his own kingdom. Actions have consequences across The Land, with powerful creatures and factions now hell-bent on Richter's destruction.

Can Richter forge allegiances to survive this harsh and unforgiving world or will he fall to the dark denizens of this ancient and unforgiving realm?

A tale to shake "The Land" itself, measuring 10/10 on the Richter scale, how will Richter's choices shape the future of The Land and all who reside in it? Can he grow his power to meet the deadliest of beings of the land? When choices are often a shade of grey, how will Richter ensure he does not become what he seeks to destroy?

Better Than The Wheel Of Time and Firefly

To call a series better than Wheel of Time MIGHT seem sacrilegious. However, I found myself glued to the series from the start. I haven't even finished all 7 books, but I have listened to the first 5 and am about to start book 6. As other people have said Ready Player One meets Game of Thrones... I figured I would name drop a couple other awesome titles that you probably are already a fan of, and then say, get The Land: Founding and see if you fall in love with it like myself.

Nick Podehl is a great narrator. My first thought was that this guy sounds like Howard from Big Bang Theory. I actually was convinced that Simon Helberg and Nick Podehl were the same person. I had to google them to make sure it wasn't. And I am glad I was wrong. Nick does an amazing job of giving each character his or her own voice. A lot of narrators don't do both genders well, but he did a fantastic job, and used a wide range of accents and intonations to give each race and individual their own style. I will definitely be listening to more of Nick Podehl on Audible. Along with Michael Kramer and Kate Reading, he is now in my top 3.

The story: as this is my first LitRPG series, I enjoyed how the characters' leveling was integral to the story line but the stats were not obnoxiously interrupting the action all the time. The characters are very relatable. The pop culture references are sprinkled on sparingly and effectively for humor but not so much that the series will seem dated in 5 years. The battle scenes are great, especially as the story progresses (not just in book one), the relationships between Richter and the other villagers are interesting to watch as they unfold, the crafting, enchanting, research, and other game elements are also used to enhance the story, rather than fluff it with filler material. I have not only grown to love the characters, I have grown to love the universe here, and I don't want the story to end. I want there to be more adventures to listen to/read in the Land.

The author said something about writing stuff that he would want to read himself. I think that sentiment nailed it, and also in turn, he figured out how to write what I wanted to read, in the same series. I caught up with a friend recently in another state that I hadn't talked to in over a year. During that conversation I mentioned randomly that I have been listening to The Land and he said "wow yeah it's really good, you are going to love Book 7".

Hope my review helps. If you are on the fence, if you have a few other books in your cart, move them to your Wish List and get this first. You will thank me.

Masterful

Pinnacle of the genre in my opinion. From the start of this book to the end of the latest you'll find yourself gripped to the story. Feels like you've got an invested interest in all the characters. I cannot recommend this enough. And it only gets better after this.

This is good if you’ve ever played a MMORPG.

I didn’t think watching a character level up could be so interesting. If you’ve played a RPG video game before you’ll get a lot of the references. The is a great first book and I already bought the second.

Oh and the performance by Nick Podehl was out standing. He has an outstanding character voice range.

if you like rpg or fantasy get ready for a nerdgasm

Great story and performance, this was my first litrpg book and I see many more in my future. I felt like I was playing world of Warcraft or Skyrim. The level up prompts get a little annoying but it’s also good to remember what the characters stats are before moving forward through the book. Definitely worth a ready to see if you like LitRPG. :)

can’t wait to dive into the next one.

Only 4.5 stars? No.

Nick is a great narrator. Him and Jeff Hays are the best reading the genre IMO. When i saw this one book in the series at 4.5 stars I felt I personally failed the universe by not writing a review. If you've never listened to a LITRPG before, try it. If you have, you know this is the best series :)

Aleron also interacts with his fans if you're into that!

Was mich zu meinem größten Kritikpunkt bringt:

Didn't like the narration

Maybe simply reading it would have been better. The audio narration over emphasis to many things. It sometimes felt like someone tries to make it dramatic when a sack of rice falls over just by over pronouncing it.

The audio acknowledgements for level ups and stuff is somewhat fun. My wife and I had a good laugh while listening: "Love, shall we continue listening to the Ding! Book?"

Reading out loud All of the stats and skill stuff everytime in endless completion, was very dull.

It has some great moments and a few fun ones. The world building is good. But due to being hyped a lot, my expectations very somewhat higher.

Toller Sprecher, schlechter Autor

Also ein erzähltes Online-Rollenspiel. Mitsamt Stufenanstieg, Werten, Quests, Loot, etc.

Fazit: Toller Sprecher, Geschichte okay, Charaktere charakterlos.

Pageturner though lacking some depth

The story is literaly a Computer RPG game turned into a book. Hearing the level progression is almost AS rewarding as playing oneself exept that one cannot play while cycling yet so this is a great book for all avid gamers.

I did miss the party group-dynamic though that is e.g. excellent in the Drew Heyes books.

Adding a village one then other hand was really a good idea that leaves room for many Mord books.
