Description

They were the leaders, the men who made the decisions that change the outcome of battles... and the fate of continents. From the awesome landing at Normandy to the torturous campaigns of the South Pacific, from the frozen hills of Korea to the devastated wastes of Dien Bien Phu, they had earned their stars. Now they led America’s finest against her most relentless enemy deep in the jungles of Southeast Asia. It was a new kind of war, but the Generals led a new kind of army, ready for battle - and glory...

Critiques

“A major work... magnificent... powerful. If books about warriors and the women who love them were given medals for authenticity, insight and honesty, The Brotherhood of War would be covered with them.” (William Bradford Hule)

Soap opera for men

I have really enjoyed this series by W. E. B. Griffin. The character development is great and the narrator, Eric G Dove is very good. This entire series has been like a soap opera for men. I find myself getting attached to some characters and not liking others. There is plenty of military action but there is also some of the day to day stuff that happens in life. The descriptions of the day to day life in the military is very accurate and the details are spot on. The narrator gets most of his terminology right and keeps his characters in their unique style of voice throughout the series. If you're a military history buff or just looking for a good series to start give this one a try.

Veteran of the brotherhood of war

I joined the US Military in 1960 and retired in 1990. I was an Army aviator in Vietnam. Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, 26 awards of the Air Medal. Between my brother and I spanned the entire period of service from the Constabulary in Germany through the Vietnam war. We were aware of, a party to, or participant in essentially all of the major events of this series. I loved these books as they told the story of this period of my life in very personal terms and brought back events of my career in very believable and and very enjoyable form.

Great book in the series

One of my favorite books in the “Brotherhood of War” series. The continuing characters of the series makes the books.

A good read<br />

Griffin spends a lot of space/Time on official orders. It was a good finish to the series.

First disappointment in the series

I have really been enjoying this series, but for the first time in Book 6 (The Generals), there is too much repetition of everything that has transpired. There has been a little recap in each of the series after the first, but not too obtrusive until this story. Way too much recap and a repeat of the story. A repetitive waste of time.

goodbye to the old gang

I'm going to miss Craig, Snady, and Parker.
Griffin put together a stellar series. I ended up watching John Wayne in the Grren Berets just to capture the essence of the day.

Excellent, though the ending felt abrupt

I have adored listening to this series, following the various characters introduced in book 1, and also enjoying those brought in at different points and even with this 6th book in the series. The vivid characters and suspenseful stories and plots woven throughout kept me constantly wanting to listen. I am disappointed, though, that this book which seems to lead into a transition of characters in the Brotherhood of War, gives minimal insights into how their stories end and none about their collective ties to one another. I sincerely hope I am wrong and that some characters will bridge into the remaining books of the series, but the character summaries in the epilogue suggest otherwise.

Great story, selfish ending

Where does The Generals: Brotherhood of War, Book 6 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Well written. I always thought Lowel was just selfish but caring guy. He had so many friends. But, in the end he thought of himself. He lost all his friends and The POW wife lost everything! She lost her good name, family and her children. Sad ending.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved how the army was finally going to right a wrong and get Lowell promoted, and given more responsibility. Also I liked the politics and back room maneuvers.

Which character – as performed by Eric G. Dove – was your favorite?

So many characters but Lowell, as flawed as he was, made you care about him. Which is why we all were so disappointed when he fails so spectacular. However in the end he just showed he's a self centered narcissist.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me angry then sad. I was angry with Lowell and Mrs Sims. By 1970 the Vietnam War was winding down. Nixon was pulling out the troops and by 1971, and it was only a matter of time and patience.

Great books

I've always enjoyed Griffins books I own most of them but to have them on audio is great.
