    A female Holmes??

The main character, Enola Holmes, is the younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes. Contrary to the plot summary, she does not work with her brothers on the case of the disappearance of Dr. Watson. In fact, she keeps her activities secret from them - and she does solve the case.

Enola Holmes is a spunky girl, determined to make her way as a detective in Victorian England - despite her brothers' wishes that she be a respectable female. Her mother is a bit of a free spirit, apparently, and is not much help. Enola is, in my opinion at least, rather too focused on her relationship with her mother (very strained - they communicate in code in the personal column of a newspaper) and brothers (they want to send her to a finishing school). Despite that preoccupation, she takes effective action to find the good doctor, and I rather liked her.

    Favorite one so far

This is my third Enola Holmes book and my favorite one thus far. The narrator is amazing.

Great story! Not for the faint hearted!

Loved this installment of the Enola Holmes saga. The rich details in the story telling painted quite the picture. The narrator cannot be beat! You always know who is speaking and she is a master of accents. This story was quite creepy in parts, enough to give the listener a sound shiver up the spine. The ending, as usual, is quite satisfying.

Elaborately described characters and brilliant voice performance of those characters

The characters of Nancy Springers series are so vividly described I felt as if I could not only see them but almost physically sense their presence as Enola reacted to them and Katherine Kellgren performed all their voices with the varied genders and class and place specific accents superbly like a one woman radio show. It’s like being transported to 19th century England while I load my dishwasher!

Enola Holmes: The Case of the Bizarre Bouquets

I have a new favorite author and heroine! Enola Holmes is for adults what Nancy Drew is for children. These books are delightful with a great story line, characters, and narrator.

    Post Netflix

I decided to try one of these books after seeing the Enola Holmes movie on Netflix. Perhaps if I had read the book 1st I might have enjoyed it more but after seeing the film with a truly delightful young character it was hard to get into the narration which, although very competently read, sounded as though it were being voiced by a woman in her late 40s and so did not match the character. The plot line was simplistic and the mystery was not challenging… I think I’ll give the series a pass and hope that Netflix makes the sequel.

    A teenage, female Holmes

What made the experience of listening to The Case of the Bizarre Bouquets the most enjoyable?

My daughter and I can both enjoy the story, the included history of the times makes for some fun discussions about women then and now and how much Enola can do on her own as my daughter is about the same age.
