Absolutely love Stephanie Laurens & Cynster books

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes. It would have taken longer to read, lol

What did you like best about this story?

    Following the Cynster's, of course.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I didn't really enjoy the voice. Not what I imagine a female Cynster to sound like. Too weak and timid, not strong and confident.

Could you see The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I don't know. It might would take away from the book.

    Any additional comments?

Not sure I will get another book with this narrator?

A Waste of Time and Money

I bought this book at the recommendation of others on this site who claimed the third and last book in the series was better than the other two, including "wonderful" and " a great wurprising and warm ending." To me, it was as bad as the others: NO PLOT, repetitive debates of "does he really love me or not", and the noble Earl debating how he can save his clan and save the reputation of Angelica. The dialogue between the lovers and the love scenes are boring with little dynamics or passion. The first 5 hours or so revolve around trying to decide how to get out of London without being caught. Meanwhile Angelica who has found her "hero" - no reason given other than she has the magic necklace around her neck -- and agrees to cooperate with the Earl, won't agree to marry the Earl, but still spends the time redecorating his London house and polishing his silver. Then the next 5 hours or so are spent traveling to the castle, looking at maps, staying in inns and trying to decide whether to sleep together. The scene when they finally have sex together is so stupid: She surpirses him by showing up naked in his bed and then proceeds to give him a multi-point speech about why they should have sex. Only the last couple hours, of this very long book, deal with the crazy mother and why she wants revenge against the Cynsters, and the final wrap-up of the series. Stephanie Laurens has been one of my favorite authors, but this series has been truly awful! The series is nothing like the earlier Cynster novels with fasinating plots and characters. It makes me wonder if I'll ever buy another book by Laurens.

    Pleasing trilogy summation

Where does The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

While it's not a deep and meaningful experience, it's frothy escapism.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae?

The initial interactions of the two main characters were well written.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

After years of Simon Prebble's narration of the Cynster sagas, I'm sorry to report that the new voice does not quite meet his previously recordings.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

For a lark, it's an engaging addition to the Cynster lore.

    Great listen

Would you consider the audio edition of The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae to be better than the print version?

It was not a disappointment enjoyed it very much. Could have had a different narrater.

    Great ending to the trilogy!

For sheer entertainment value, this novel was a winner. After the the other two in the series, you had to wonder how it was going to end and what would be come of the Laird. Now we know.

Nice job of narrating overall (even though I admit to missing Simon Prebble's voice in this Stephanie Lauren's novel) and I enjoyed it immensely. No, it's not complicated nor should any of this be taken too seriously. It is what it is - entertaining listening as you go down the road.

I wonder what her next series is going to be about?

    Forgettable

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I think that I really just don't care for this author. I read another book by her from this series a few months ago and did not enjoy it. I thought I would try this one since it got better reviews and I had in in my library but it was just as bad.

What could Stephanie Laurens have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

These books are just a bit tedious, traveling fom inn to inn, love scenes are a bit overdone and repetitive. No truly great connection between the characters. Blah.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The male voices are good but the female voices are whiny.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I did like Angelica she was very outspoken and free thinking for the time period and I enjoyed that.

    Narrator lacking

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I loved the story, but the narrator is lacking. Men just down do a good job with female parts. Why don't they hire two narrators--male and female. I think one of Jayne Krentz's books is like that and I really enjoyed it. I just don't care for male narrators reading romance novels.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the plot and the mention of characters from previous books in this series.

What didn???t you like about Matthew Brenher???s performance?

He does a poor female voice. It was hard to tell the characters apart at times.

Did The Capture of the Earl of Glencrae inspire you to do anything?

    I bought Mastered by Love.

    Any additional comments?

I really enjoy audiobooks and have a lot of them.

Don't bother with this Cynster audio book.

I usually love Stephanie Laurens books. I have insomnia so they are great to listen to when the nights get long...but the narrator's voice on this audio actually put me to sleep. He sounds like he is reading a dictionary. No inflections, no exciting, animated, or differentiated voices. What happened to Simon Preble who usually reads Ms. Laurens books? Now there is someone who can read and take you away. I won't buy anymore books with this narrator.

    Loved this one!!!

In typical Stephanie Laurens fashion a tale of Cynsters, love, family.... and in this case a wicked twisted plot (and of course long sex scenes) is a perfect historical romance...

NARRATOR : Matthew Brenher is perfect. I think he may be my favorite male narrator. Characters are distinct, voices hold perfect tone, the women sound like women.... he's very good!!

    CREDITWORTHY? : Yes!

HEAT FACTOR?: High.... very high without reaching erotica.
