    Description

    Brought to you by Penguin.

What causes people to continually relive what they most want to forget and what treatments could help restore them to a life with purpose and joy?

In this audiobook, Dr Bessel van der Kolk offers a new paradigm for effectively treating traumatic stress.

Neither talking nor drug therapies have proven entirely satisfactory. With stories of his own work and those of specialists around the globe, The Body Keeps the Score sheds new light on the routes away from trauma - which lie in the regulation and syncing of body and mind, using sport, drama, yoga, mindfulness, meditation and other routes to equilibrium.

This inspiring and timeless audiobook is read by Sean Pratt.

    Don't waste your time

I forced myself to listen to the whole book but honestly this is the worst book I have ever read/listen to. the author is a psychiatrist who worked with patients who went through trauma, but the book is basically a list of all the different cases he has had (some of them are really harsh, not sure they are suitable for sensitive people). I have been through trauma myself and thought this book could give me answers or teach me something, but not at all.
Please don't waste your time/money listening to it, however if you want to know more about healing from trauma you could listen to "The Compassionate Mind" which is excellent and recommended by my therapist, and also "The Courage to Heal" about healing from sexual abuse.
But if you have been through trauma I suggest to see a therapist and eventually practice EMDR, this really changed my life. Take care of yourselves everyone :)

    Must read for health practioners.

Understanding that pain and suffering can be explained and treated from a traumatic point of view is really helpful and insightful. This text opened my eyes to new ways to approach psychological pain in my own healing process as well as in my therapeutic process.

    Very eye opening

Definately must read. For everyone, with traumas or not. Makes you wander how is it possible that in out science oriented society, we already know so many things about the human organism, and yet fail to teach this basic "what it takes to be human" manual to everyone on the planet

    Un libro excelente para entendernos

me encantó el contenido. No solo pude entender como el cuerpo sigue manteniendo esta memoria de los traumas, si no que los convierte en síntomas.

    Fascinating

This is THE best book I’ve listened to ever and it gives me so much hope. I can’t believe this isn’t common knowledge. It empowers the listeners and guides them to take control and manage their feelings and lives.

It helps you understand that we are all struggling.

    Groundbreaking information, a must read

    Lifesaving Listen

This really helped me to better understand and deal with my personal trauma. I can recommend this book to anyone who has been through many doctors and mental health specialists, but is still suffering, not knowing where to turn and what is going on in their body and mind. I also think this could help if mental health care is inaccessible to you and you want to help yourself. This book has given me direction in my healing journey and has helped me get away from feeling like healing is not possible for me and that there is just something "wrong with me'". I am so grateful for the series of events that led to me listening to this book.

Great book with hope for trauma victims

This book has stirred me deeply touched me immensely and challenged me greatly.
The touching stories of people and their way to recovery through consistent safe and caring relationships and cause oriented treatment through therapy makes it possible for patients to reaccess their trapped memories and learned helplessness in dealing with trauma.
I will write a more thorough article about this on my own blog for sure and probably listen to it a second time or actually read it.
The narrator has a calm and compassionate voice which gies very whell with the authors personalized storytelling and presentation.
    Really recommended.

    Life changer

The book covers trauma from various angles. Coming from a science background it was eye opening to see the physical effects of trauma on the body.
After finishing this book, many things fell into place in my life.. my past and present.
I enjoyed every hour of it.
To the author: I can not thank you enough. My life will not be the same after finding my scores.

Excellent description of psychology of resume and ptsd in context

Aside from the well-researched and fascinating information about psychological and physiological effects of trauma + successful therapies, the book also addresses some of the historical and “political” context of the struggle to see and recognize and properly diagnose/treat patients. Really well-done.

Full of insights about how body and mind are connected

The author has a very good sense of how to best familiarize the reader/listener with this complex topic. Its scientific but still fun. There are a lot of carefully picked case studies to illustrate the topics addressed . Also BvdK provides a lot of hands on recommendations for therapists and patients alike.
I enjoyed listening to this book.
