    Description

Murray Rothbard was known as the state's greatest living enemy, and this audiobook is his most powerful statement on the topic. He explains what a state is and what it is not. He shows how it is an institution that violates all that we hold as honest and moral, and how it operates under a false cover. He shows how the state wrecks freedom, destroys civilization, and threatens all lives and property and social well-being, all under the veneer of "good intentions".

    Good material

The material is great but the book cuts out and doesnt finish chapters. Is a little frustrating not getting all the story.

    shoddy editing

The end of every chapter was cut off prematurely. The writing is top notch though.

    Garbage, don't waste your money.

the book is probably good, but this recording drops out completely a few minutes into every chapter so I have no idea what the book is actually about.

    terrible editing

The book is great, but every chapter is cut short by a word or sometimes a paragraph. The editing ruins what should be five stars. It is only 7 chapaters...

    A lovely little listen.

An entertaining little treatise about the nature of the state. In it, the listener can easily diagnose the rotten foundations that Rothbard has left to the Austrians and the Libartarian movement in general. During the entire length of it, Rothbard tries to include into the libertarian ideology, the Marxist mantra that "the proletariat has nothing but it's chains". Only the ruling elites want conflict, for their own gains, the proletariat if left on its own devices would get along well with each other.

In order to achieve this, he first creates the unspoken assumption that every social formation is "state" and then goes about to give a couple of examples of 2 or 3 countries of western Europe during 2-3 centuries. He concludes that only the elites have to fear from an aggression of another state, not the people, brushing away as "statist" or "ruling class talk" any notion of defense in any group at any circumstance.

While this work was made to attract disillusioned veterans of the Vietnam War into the Austrian movement, it's completely out of touch with the reality itself and the entire human experience.
