Description
New York Times Best Seller • The heroes of the High Republic era return to face a shattered peace and a fearsome foe, following the dramatic events of Light of the Jedi.
In the wake of the hyperspace disaster and the heroism of the Jedi, the Republic continues to grow, bringing more worlds together under a single unified banner. Under the leadership of Chancellor Lina Soh, the spirit of unity extends throughout the galaxy, with the Jedi and the newly established Starlight Beacon station at the vanguard.
In celebration, the chancellor plans the Republic Fair, a showcase of the possibilities and the peace of the expanding Republic - a peace the Jedi hope to foster. Stellan Gios, Bell Zettifar, Elzar Mann, and others join the event as ambassadors of harmony. But as the eyes of the galaxy turn toward the fair, so too does the fury of the Nihil. Their leader, Marchion Ro, is intent on destroying this unity. His storm descends on the pageantry and celebration, sowing chaos and exacting revenge.
As the Jedi struggle to curb the carnage of the rampaging Nihil, they come face-to-face with the true fear their enemy plans to unleash across the galaxy - the kind of fear from which even the Force cannot shield them.

Not better than the vol 1
Again nothing happens during this lengthy succession of uninterresting events.
You get lost with slicing of each micro stories leading nothing close a scénario
very disapointing

No actual ending.
these books are terribly constructed and have way too many characters that they try to follow. This isn't a movie or TV show you don't leave your books on cliffhangers.

Scott is a Master of Tragedy! *Spoiler-Free*
Scott packs a punch, fulfilling all of the promises of phase one while simultaneously leaving the reader gutted. The story spends pretty much the entirety of its first act in a more dialogue focused manor, rarely splintering into action. But in those moment we do get action, they are incredibly impactful and horrifying. As a result of his love for the genre of horror, Scott masterfully walks the tightrope of making the reader fear in a Star Wars novel. Perhaps it's thanks to my personal taste but the second act's action focus was slightly less exciting to me but it set up things that allowed the third act to feel like a deserving end to the 15 hour journey. Marc Thompson is amazing as usual, no surprises there. I'm excited to see where this goes!

One author? More like two: ADD and his brother ADHD.
What is there to enjoy? A convoluted plot with no real direction? A cast of characters that’ll leave you saying “who?” 95% of the time someone is mentioned.
This is one of the worst written books I’ve listened to. It is genuinely awful, one proof reading session should’ve resulted in this having massive rewrites to fix whatever this is.
The production quality is all this offers. The sound effects are stellar and the narrator does an excellent job.
The author however needs to take some classes on writing.

Once Again saved by Marc Thompson
Similar to Light of the Jedi the story jumps around and is fragmented, because they (Disney) want you to buy the comics and the JA novels. Its made bearable by Marc Thompson and the production team. Really Thompson should just narrate and do primary character, letting others do unique voices. Go back to Radio shows. The novels are almost there anyway.

If you liked Elzar Mann before, DO NOT READ
This author wrote Elzar to be an emotional, flippant, fickle child. Not only did his storyline cheapen his relationship with Avar, it made him seem shallow and temperamental. I loved Elzar and was rooting for him in the first book, now, I hate when a chapter is about him... this author ruined the series for me.
Additionally, the plot is chaotic with way too many characters. A comic book author has no business writing a novel.

Stunning! must read
Yet another wonderful addition to the High Republic era. The drive of the characters and the intricacies of the villain. Not everyday you get a well thought out and put together antagonist to make the stakes feel high. can't wait for more novels

Slow moving story.
The story takes hours to get going and never keeps a decent speed. The narrator is excellent as always. Marc Thompson is the gold standard for starwars. Have enjoyed the new series, so I'm very disappointed in this book. Underwhelming. Try listening at 1.5x speed. Maybe it'll make it easier to stay focused.

The force is not strong with these stories
By keeping the reader in the dark for so much of the story (and especially the ending), I am feeling more and more discouraged by the storyline of the "High Republic".
The ignorance of the Republic and especially these Jedi has grown past frustration and is now into apathy. I really hope changes are made in future books. But honestly, I don't know when I will purchase another "High Republic" property. Or I will wait until I see what others say about future stories and if it improves, I might give it a try. But I am in no hurry.
Kudos to Marc Thompson for giving us a lot more than the author did. Mr. Thompson performed admirably, even Grand Admirably!

too many characters and threads
cliffhanger everywhere from constant chapter hopping viewpoints. relies a bit on comics and YA works to explain what has happened since light of jedi. massive ending fatigue to setup a final cliffhanger. narrator is good but there are too many female characters for him to do them all without laughable voices like a doctor evil impression.

opinion on deaf ears
where to start.. too many characters. theres like 30 + characters in the book. not the series...this book. ugh...its so grueling and tedious to keep everything organized its like a sistine chapel painted by anakin skywalker...as a child...its horrible. hard to "feel" interested when the plot is jumping so fast. plot is paper thin talking about the "nihil" or however its spelled. sorry it leaves me angry knowing their are authors that attempt to be make a star wars novel. the thrawn series is better than this bantha turd...and that series was hard to follow. this book was phantom menace bad. do yourself a favor and dont read this series. you will thank me. and yes i listened to it start to finish...15 hours im not getting back. side note...marc thompson...be selective with who you agree to read novels from. you either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain. talking to you thompson.

Mediocre storyline, but great storytelling
The storyline is average, and for the most part predictable. Makes it a mediocre story.
But the storyteller knows their business, that's some really nice work.

It's hard to follow the High Republic era
It's hard to follow the High Republic era. I've read every book and comic but the amount of characters is just too high. This book adds even more, each one with a forgettable name and of (even to me as a huge SW fan) sometimes unknown alien species. Don't make me start a spreadsheet of characters...
As always, the production of this Star Wars audiobook is great.
