    Description

Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, faces a threat unlike any other in this thrilling entry in the number one New York Times best-selling series.

I am Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman.
My only “superpowers” are that I turn into a 35 pound coyote and fix Volkswagens. But I have friends in odd places and a pack of werewolves at my back. It looks like I'm going to need them.

Centuries ago, the fae dwelt in Underhill - until she locked her doors against them. They left behind their great castles and troves of magical artifacts. They abandoned their prisoners and their pets. Without the fae to mind them, those creatures who remained behind roamed freely through Underhill wreaking havoc. Only the deadliest survived.

Now one of those prisoners has escaped. It can look like anyone, any creature it chooses. But if it bites you, it controls you. It lives for chaos and destruction. It can make you do anything - even kill the person you love the most. Now it is here, in the Tri-Cities. In my territory.

    It won't, can't, remain.

Not if I have anything to say about it.

Briggs & King at their best

Any Briggs is a good story and Lorelei King has definitely become Mercy's voice in my head. Full of awful, creepy, funny and endaring moments

    WORTH THE WAIT!!!

I don’t know why this one was one of my most expected books of the year. It was a “I CANNOT WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT” book! I was also afraid that my high expectations would make this book feel not as good as it should because this has happened to me before - with books, movies, and other things.

Well, I shouldn’t have worried. The book was awesome. And it met my high expectations wonderfully!

As I don’t want to leave spoilers I can only said that Mercy did what she does best! And to not miss this installment of the Mercyverse! It was worth the wait!

    Recommended audiobook!

    An interesting turn

So if you are wondering if this book as good, or if this series is good and if this book lives up to the rest of the series the answer is yes to all. This series is held up there with the greats of PNR and/or Urban Fantasy with Dresend Files, Kare Daniels, and such for a reason for any new comers. Yes it is one of the few series that sits in the middle of the two subgenres, as it balance relationships and plot pretty evenly though it does tip between the two based on the book, this one is a relationship book.

Over all this is one of the best books I've read this year. None of my typical grips are here, it shows more than tells, it properly describes things and best of al there are no politics. If want a strong female character done properly, Mercy is right here, feel free to take notes. Personally one of my favorite things about this book and series is that the story doesn't end with the two MCs get hitched, which was back in book three if I remember right. Anyway I digress, I enjoy that the married couple behave like a married couple, there is no stupid false drama everything organic, and I wish more married authors did this. I also enjoy that this series focuses on Celtic, Slavic, and to a lesser degree Native American myths rather than Norse or Greek, and does so rather well.

In the end, yes buy this book if you follow the series. Yes buy this series if you like good writing. And yes buy this book because three times the charm.

    Sad but good

I noticed that this book had a more serious tone in it than the others, understandably so with everything that was going on. I loved it like I love all her books in this series, it was just sad. But sometimes you need a little sad.

Not my favorite of the series

I usually love each new book in this series more than the last but that was not the case with this one. The storyline was a bit hard for me to follow. Lorelei's performance was the best part. Her wide range of voices and consistence with pronunciation and personalities is almost unmatched.

    Different

I love this series, the past two books though haven't been my favorite. The storyline I struggle with keeping my attention in quite a few parts. This one i struggled with what Adam was or wasn't through the book...

Another Great Listen in This Great Series

I love this series for the fact that not everything is so PEACHY when it comes to relationships and that they are always fluid and evolving. Briggs is a true artist here and a Master when compared to many other authors when it comes to convincing relationships.

The multiple plots were well done and didn't bog down the flow of the of the story and the flow was constant, if I was not forces to pause or stop the narration, I would have finished this in one sitting.

Everything was well balanced between Action, Suspense, and everything in between.

I was pretty sure who the escapee for Underhill was after Beauclaire talked to Mercy, and I was happy that I was correct.

I cannot wait for another installment in this series and Alpha and Omega.

    This was boring.

I've read and re-read this series multiple times. I had to force myself not to skip whole sections. You could honestly just read the reviews with spoilers and save your money. A lot goes on. Very little is interesting or exciting. This series usually blends the interesting and the exciting together quite well. And I was able to figure out the big secret. This whole book could've been about ONE of themany threads and been so much more interesting. The narrator did her usual good job, so there's that.

My favorite UF series out there!

The new badie in town is a creature that can take over the will of another with a bite. Also, there's some trouble with Wulfe, apparently after-effects from the last story, making Mercy a focus for him, and there's another set of werewolves stirring trouble for the Pack. Add to all of that, there's some unease between Mercy and Adam, and that's what concerned me the most.

I paused my re-read of past books to read the latest Mercy Thompson because my curiosity got the better of me after reading a few reviews. I was anxious because I saw a few readers talking about problems with their mate bond and some marital discord between Mercy and Adam, and I had to find out what was going on.

Yes, there was some trouble, but as with any relationship/marriage things are not perfect. The marriages that survive are the ones work through whatever trials that come at them. That's exactly what Mercy and Adam do! I just love these two (yes, I realize they're fictional, lol) and I was happy with how it all worked out.

Lorelei King IS Mercy Thompson to me, and I can hardly imagine "reading" the series without her performing the characters. Her comedic timing is spot on, male and female voices and accents are perfection!

    wonderful everything as always

I love that Lorelei King excels at giving each character their own voice and I *never* have to question who is speaking. Patricia Briggs has delivered yet another amazing and complex story furthering my love of Mercy and the Mercyverse itself. I can't wait to find out what happens next given the return of an "old friend" in this book!

    Sehr unterhaltsam

Das Wort Rumpelstilzchen so schlecht ausgesprochen made my day XD
Ansonsten war es wie jedes Mercy Thompson Hörbuch sehr unterhaltsam.
