    Description

Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, must face her greatest fears in this chilling entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

The vampire Wulfe is missing. Since he’s deadly, possibly insane, and his current idea of “fun” is stalking me, some may see it as no great loss. But, warned that his disappearance might bring down the carefully constructed alliances that keep our pack safe, my mate and I must find Wulfe—and hope he’s still alive. As alive as a vampire can be, anyway.

But Wulfe isn’t the only one who has disappeared. And now there are bodies, too. Has the Harvester returned to the Tri-Cities, reaping souls with his cursed sickle? Or is he just a character from a B horror movie and our enemy is someone else?

The farther I follow Wulfe’s trail, the more twisted—and darker—the path becomes. I need to figure out what’s going on before the next body on the ground is mine.

Too much recap but still a good story

The last couple of books have been a little over dramatic for me. This one was a little toned down and way more reasonable and I liked it. We got further insight on the vampires, specifically Wulfe. A few times while listening to the book I thought, well nothing is really happening. I do prefer that than the over the top, no way Mercy should be alive plot.

I usually don’t like when authors reflect on things we already know from previous books. The author does a great job of bringing up the history of the series without it seeming like it’s repetitive and droning on. Especially because I didn’t remember Mercy had siblings and that Adam’s pack came from New Mexico. With that being said, I’d say about 40% of the book is recap.

We’ve always known that Zee is dangerous but I actually LOVED how protective he is of Tad. He does not play about his son. I’m also glad that Warren’s issue was small and not another potential burden.

I was a little confused trying to comprehend Stephen’s dream. The whole Sherwood and Charles situations are also unresolved which I guess are setups for coming books. This book is definitely more of a filler to transition into future plots.

The reason this book is getting a 4 instead of a 3 (so much recap and no real progression of the story) for me is because 1. I always feel like Patricia does the research and fills us in on lore and 2. Lorelei King always does such an amazing job narrating. I actually couldn’t even imagine enjoying the story as much without her narration.

Side note; I saw a lower review say that in every book Mercy’s power enhances in someway but she she didn’t this book. Did she not gain being able to see in people’s soul?! That’s a major enhancement to me. Even if it was just for a little while.

    Pretty good.

A worthwhile addition to the series if not one of my favorites in the series.

Fans should be happy with this one, though I can't place my finger on why it doesn't wow me.

    Decent but not notable

Interesting installment in the series but it didn’t grab me like some of the books. I’m going to listen to two other books first, then revisit this book.
Always love King’s narration; she IS Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman.

    What a ride!!

No spoilers. It was an EXCELLENT book. I love the tidbits of history that Patty always touches. There weren’t nearly as many problems with consistency in this one. And since it’s her world I figure she can change what she wants. Huge cliffhanger at the end that will make me crazy for the next 2 years. Narrator drops the ball as usual but sounded a bit less like a newscaster this time. Now to read it again!

Another hit story for the series

Wilde is supposed to be the bad guy but there’s something about his character I like. Poor Stefan gets the worse treatment again. The mystery is well written and the wonderful characters are at it again. There are some secondary stories that are interesting too. Well narrated as this is makes all the difference. Well done.

    Entertaining

Alis, another run in with a problematic ancient. Plenty of action. The narrator did a great job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene.

What can I say? I was excited to see that there was a new book coming out in this series and I hit the "buy" button the day it came out. When you have gotten this far into a series - this is the 13th book - you find out that you can have conflicting thoughts. First of all - you are excited to see the next story arc and thrilled to be able to get back into a world that you have grown to love, yet in a way, you can also be nervous that this world has been utilized a lot. Is it too much? Has the story arc been done too much? Every so often, those thoughts do pop up.

Well, I am happy to say that this was a wonderful book. We are thrown back into the world of Mercy and Adam as things have seemed to finally have settled down after the events of the crazy witches. Unfortunately, while the situation with the witches may be settled, there are other things that are still out there. This book continues on with the story arc of Wulfe that was stareted a couple of books ago.

I alternated between listening and reading and was thrilled that Lorelei King continued on as the narrator of the series. She does a truly fantastic job and I can not imagine anyone else narrating this series.

I LOVED this book and if anything, it makes me even more excited to wait for the next book. This is a series that only seems to get better the longer it goes on :)
