Description
Captured by raiders to be sold as a slave, Sofea narrowly escapes their ship and finds herself stranded on the shores of Israel. Bargaining her way to a city of refuge, she finds herself in an even more dangerous situation. Can she find safety in this city of strangers, accept their God as hers, and be satisfied with His justice instead of her own?
The daughter of a pagan high priest, Sofea finds solace from her troubles in the freedom of the ocean. But when marauders attack her village on the island of Sicily, she and her cousin are taken across the sea to the shores of Canaan.
Eitan has lived in Kedesh, a City of Refuge, for the last 11 years, haunted by a tragedy in his childhood and chafing at the boundaries placed on him. He is immediately captivated by Sofea, but revealing his most guarded secret could mean drawing her into the danger of his past.
As threats from outside the walls loom and traitors are uncovered within, Sofea and Eitan are plunged into the midst of a murder plot. Will they break free from the shackles of the past in time to uncover the betrayal and save their lives and the lives of those they love?

Shelter of the Most High
A great addition to this series. Hope there will be more. An excellent narrator. This author is so wonderful, that Biblical fiction is now one of my two favorite genres.

Stuck on this author
I discovered Connilyn Cossettes books based on Old Testament periods by accident. Her stories both intrigue and draw you into a different time period. I enjoy decent character development and story lines that grab your imagination in and this book has both. There is more context if reading the books in succession but they stand on their own. Weaving fiction around historical events is not usually my mainstay for fiction reading but Connnilyn does it in a way I find both honours the history and puts flesh on it. I give it a lower mark for performance simply because some of the voices used for narration grate a little.

Please please choose a different narrator
The narrator really hurts the story. It’s difficult to tell when Aton was speaking because of her feminine high Voice (he’s a manly soldier!)and the way she pronounces her e’s and s’s is enough to drive a person mad. But I love the books! Needs a new narrator.

Loved the story
I thought the story was beautiful and enjoyed listening. The only thing i would have liked was a male voice with the male characters or a voice change.

Full-bodied and Colorful With Surprising Twists
The narrator is ok, but I wish there was an actual male narrator too. It would have made Eitan's first person narrative stand out better from Sofea's.
The story itself, full bodied, colorful and with many surprising twists. Eitan is now 20, a metalsmith under a nazirite vow. Darek, now his abba, husband of MoriYah, finds a young Sicani (early name for Sicillian), Sofea and her cousin Prezi washed up onto a beach near the city of Tyre. These traumatized young ladies from a distinctly pagan culture get their first taste of YHWH'S loving care that first day. Both have lost their families, now they get a new one. Eitan's friendship with Nazir isn't totally what would be expected. That's what Connilyn is so very good at. You guess at what's coming then get a twist! The romance between Sofea and Eitan is endearing. But you also end up caring about every single character, both good and bad.
