Description

"The narration by Marisa Calin is once again spot on perfection from intonation, to pronunciation to accents she gets and A+ and her portrayal of Xanthe is an absolute treasure." (The Reading Frenzy)

The second audiobook in a bewitching series "brimming with charm and charisma" that will make "fans of Outlander rejoice!" (Woman's World Magazine)

New York Times best-selling author Paula Brackston returns to the Found Things series with Secrets of the Chocolate House.

After her adventures in the 17th century, Xanthe does her best to settle back into the rhythm of life in Marlborough. She tells herself she must forget about Samuel and leave him in the past where he belongs. With the help of her new friends, she does her best to move on, focusing instead on the success of her and Flora’s antique shop.

But there are still things waiting to be found, still injustices needing to be put right, still voices whispering to Xanthe from long ago about secrets wanting to be shared.

While looking for new stock for the shop, Xanthe hears the song of a copper chocolate pot. Soon after, she has an upsetting vision of Samuel in great danger, compelling her to make another journey to the past.

This time, she'll meet her most dangerous adversary. This time, her ability to travel to the past will be tested. This time, she will discover her true destiny. Will that destiny allow her to return home? And will she be able to save Samuel when his own fate seems to be sealed?

Enjoyable

I like this series so far. This book (book 2) had some very warm fuzzy moments. It just was, well like sipping hot chocolate. You are excited looking forward to seeing the characters again but the story just seemed missing. There were ALOT of repetitive descriptions. (Like Jerry.. we get it) I always try to remember that it's just a story. But things that make me bonkers are like Zanthe and her mother were broke, supposedly she went away to London to do a gig.. wouldn't one of the questions be from her mom about how much she earned? That to me would of been a good question and a creative storying telling Lie she would of had to create. I loved the story...and there were many parts where I would of loved to have seen expanded. The Chocolate Shoppe sounded so interesting. And was a great place to build out stories. In closing I did enjoy the book and can't help but wonder if this was a "background story" to transition into the next book.

Great book. I liked it as much as the first one!

This is such an interesting series in that it smoothly combines so many aspects of several people’s lives into an easy to read, intriguing story. It keeps your interest without any dull areas where minds might wander. I looked forward to every minute of it and finished it in record time. I think the narrator is very good and easy to listen to either on Echo or earbuds. I’m looking forward to more from this author.

Much better than the first book in the series

The author hit her stride in this, the second book, in the series. It seems as if there was a bit of floundering in book one, while this one was not confusing at all, and the protagonist is developed into a more interesting character. I’m looking forward to the next one and hoping Zanthe continues to hone her skills.

Book 1 was better.

I wish this book would be about something different then another story about the first one. Book 1 was really good I couldn't put it down. This one just continued on about the same stuff. She goes back to the same place and fixes the stuff she didn't the first time. It was just ok.

Excellent series so far ready for book #3.

I now own all stories written by Paula Brackston and am desperately awaiting for her next book. I have absolutely LOVED how every story includes an artist of some form and how it always connects to the individuals unique powers. I believed this book is a wonderful start to introduce charectures but the second book more excitement and adventure I believe. I love that with adventure the main charecture finds a deep love. The books really even out. I would definitely recommend saving the foubd things for the last set of stories by paula brackston as you gey left on quite a cliff hanger from the second story. all of her books are worth reading.

Discovery of witches meets outlander!

I’m not sure my headliner actually fits a summary description of this book, however because I thoroughly enjoyed both of those mentioned this series has become a favorite! This is my third book by Paula Brackston and I have enjoyed everyone of them. There’s a simplicity, and intellectual Nature met with a historical aspect that makes these books interesting and captivating. I love the narrator Marisa Calin...Beautiful and gentle voice. Just enough variation in the characters that it works really well. I sure hope number three comes out soon!

This story makes NO SENSE

I liked the first book. I really did. But this one has some plot developments that should leave anyone with half a brain stunned. I can't say more without spoilers, so spoiler alert! The main problem is the choices Zanthy makes. She has every opportunity to end the run of the bad guy - a guy who is a power-hungry murderer. Instead, she opts for the only "solution" that hands him ultimate power. Because apparently she cant do anything bad to this monster of a human being, so her solution is to give him the power to hurt thousands more (perhaps millions) and hope that maybe he doesnt. Also, the story went from a wonderful mystery to a book that seems to be tying up old loose ends and then introducing this new bad guy to serve as a future villain. A villain who now has the power of time travel because Zanthy thought - actually, I have no idea what she thought. So, just because. Marisa Calin is still the best narrator on Audible in my opinion.
