    Description

A cultivation world destined for destruction. A man fated to destroy it. There’s a prophecy to ignore.

Jim was thrust back in time, returned to his body at the moment he started cultivating. Anyone else might have given up, but Jim doesn’t have that option. He’s already made the mistakes that doomed him in his first life, and he knows what to do to make it right. Jim wants to right the wrongs of the past...or future? All while a pair of angry gods torture him through lack of sleep.

He must find a way to reach the top of the cultivation world without drawing the attention of those who would take his knowledge of the future for themselves. Jim has seen how the world ended, and he is determined to fight his way through the world’s hidden foes and defeat his destiny.

Weakened to merely a shadow of his former strength, he quickly learns that fighting alone may not be his best option, even though fate seems to like it that way.

Luckily for the world, Jim thinks fate is stupid. He doesn’t care what it wants.

    The World I never knew

First of all the book starts out great. However it falls apart halfway. I made it 75% trough but couldn't finish it. Even after this I do not know anything about the world. There is a clan, how big? Is everyone a cultivator? is there a religion? There seem to be monsters, do they look cool or are they special in any way? Nope we are greeted by the serpent and the big and smaller scorpions. Even with artefacts there is no explanation, how rare are they? How do they work. Are there any rules or limitations? Nope they just casually break the law of conservation of mass and even create matter out of chi (how something creating knives out of thin air doesn't destroy the economy is a mystery). The worst are the companions. They have no character at all, there are 2 females and they are so flat that I could not tell them apart. Small spoilers ahead: And they both fall in love with the other 2 companions after 1 day and practically no interaction?! If at least the cultivation part was good, but even there its completly arbitrary. Do advancement levels mean anything? No they do not as a 10 year old boy with no enforcement of body and spirit is able to overwhelm everyone with no problem. It tries to explain his techniques are just too good and efficient, but his chi seems to be endless at all times. At one point he casually breaks the neck of 5 advanced cultivators at a stage where he hasn't advanced at all. How strong are 10 year old boys in this world? Even if they are not struggling, this is not something that works by lightly twisting a neck (there is talk about reinforcing bone by advancing so it would be even tougher to do). There is no struggle or any suspense, even when he is dreaming all the solutions are spoon fed to him with again no drawback.

    6 OUT OF 5 STARS!

Seriously. This book deserves a 6 out of 5 stars.
I recently read through other cultivation style books and was not impressed with the characters. Truthfully, I could not have cared less if they lived or died, but Michael has given me new hope for this series.
Finally, a main character who I can actually like!
The premise: Jim knows how the world is ending. He may or may not even be partially to blame. The gods of his portion of the universe send him back in time to fix the mistake to save billions.
So that sounds similar to a lot of other titles that have recently popped up. A second chance. A redo.
    But Reincarnation is different!
As he goes back in time, Jim is not in the body of an adult, but his 10 year old self. Not only is he physically weak, but he has just now entered the world of cultivation.
However, Jim's knowledge and memory of control over his chi allows him to be quite over powered, not because he has inordinate amounts of power, but because of his skill. This was a nice spin on the genre, as I enjoy that skill is emphasized more than brute power.
Jim is also a likeable character. He has a moral code that I agreed with, but also wasn't a holier than thou Paladin archetype. He was also battle hardened enough to make the tough choices, EG. Killing one of his enemies so said enemy would not stab him in the back later. How many stories have you read where the main character spares someone, only to have everything ruined by the person they spared/let get away?
Seriously. Read this book. You will not be disappointed.
On the plus side, Baldree narrates it, and I've pretty much enjoyed everything he narrates!

    Can't wait for more

I'm usually lukewarm with cultivation novels, but this one grabbed me. Much like Towers of Heaven, the MC goes back in time to when he is just starting, but with all his knowledge intact. I enjoyed seeing Jim put bullies of all sorts in their place and rallying to battle the Nox.

I even contacted the author...looks like book 2 is out on March 17th and he's already working on book 4!

    Very slow story

As someone who likes second chance stories this was a really disappointing one. There was so much filler dialogue it felt like the story made no progress. The MC has to make a witty comment about every little thing, whether it's something he did, how much trouble he's having adapting to his situation, or how stupid people are. There's also a lot of self analyzing/criticizing from the MC that doesn't seem to really change the way he acts at all. For someone that's supposed to have lived for 650 years before his second chance, he's also really stupid.

    Spoilers:

The MC is supposed to have been an elite soldier in the emperor's army, a great general, leader of the emperor's spy network, and the second most powerful person in the empire. Yet somehow he never sees betrayal coming at him and doesn't question anything the emperor says to him. He also constantly makes simple mistakes throughout the story like underestimating his enemies, letting his guard down after a fight, doesn't know what keeping a low profile is despite constantly saying that's what he wants to do, and just can't seem to extrapolate information at all. Such as: all these people who seem to be corrupt are wearing red robes/armor/arm bands, I guess it's just a fashion statement, not a possible sign of their group. It really annoyed me that despite supposedly being so experienced and having lived for so long the MC acted more like an overpowered teen on a superiority high rather than the experienced old man he should be. The last problem I had with the story was that it felt like it didn't go anywhere. Throughout this first book only 4-5 days pass by and he is still in the starting zone. I'll make a guess that the next few books will probably be at this pace as well since it seems there's still a lot of world building that still needs to be done.

    Disappointing

There's some decent world building and the general story is alright but beyond that, Reincarnation is disappointing. Characters are all one dimensional. The protagonist never faces any real struggles. He's supposed to be very intelligent but this is handled by making any opposition rather simple minded, having people react in wonder at simple plans, and ignoring huge gaps in his logic at times. Hypocrisy abounds (traitors to the clan are bad but robbing the clan at every opportunity good?) and torture presented as good. The concept of Jim having to deal with challenges of being young again was interesting but ignored even though it is supposedly a core part of the story. Great narration makes the book at least enjoyable but hardly anything great.

    Great!! Genuinely worth it!!!

I whole heartily have heard audio books from many, I think this easily rivals all of the harry potter franchise in, imagination, quality of voice actor, and story line.

    generic, cookie cutter

A generic wuxia plot. Another new author using the low-effort genre as a crutch.
No relationships or emotional development, just an overpowered protagonist showing baddies who is boss.
Do yourself a favour and AVOID wasting your valuable time!

    Great Narrator

if there's one thing that the narrator can do well and what I love him for. Is snark. Snarky comments seem to just tickle me the right way when travis baldree is saying them. it makes them hit twice as good and having them throughout the book kept things fresh and me chuckling with dark humor jokes/snark

    This is a fantastic read!

The premise for the story is great. It is well thought out and the pace is very well done. It is very hard to stop, even if you have to. Travis once again does an amazing job with narration. This is an absolute gem to add to the cultivation genre. So looking forward to the next installment!!

    no tention, not ineresting

The main character is better than everyone from the start which removes all danger and tention.
For the first 4 hours he beats up every "super mean" bully that definitly deserves it in a rather coldblooded mannet whilest sitting on his high horse.
Narrator is doing a good job, but that can't save it.
    Don't reccomend - mediocre
