    Description

From critically acclaimed author Alice Oseman comes a smartly crafted contemporary YA novel, perfect for fans who love Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl. This is an utterly captivating and authentic teen novel from the author of Solitaire, which VOYA said “could put her among the great young adult fiction authors.”

Frances Janvier spends most of her time studying.

Everyone knows Aled Last as that quiet boy who gets straight As.

You probably think that they are going to fall in love or something. Since he is a boy and she is a girl.

They don’t. They make a podcast.

In a world determined to shut them up, knock them down, and set them on a cookie cutter life path, Frances and Aled struggle to find their voices over the course of one life-changing year. Will they have the courage to show everyone who they really are? Or will they be met with radio silence?

    Oh so good!

This book has become without a doubt a new favorite of mine. A captivating and addictive novel that makes it so hard to put this book down. From chapter one, I was immersed so deeply in the narrative and got immediately lost in its universe and its characters. I strongly recommend the audiobook for this one, Aysha Kala's performance is remarkable.

I guess it's not for me

Almost reached the end but got tired of it, feels very slow and repetitive. It has some good points. Maybe it's for younger people.
Maybe it's the audio format that didn't work for me, cause it has lots of online chat logs back and forth and you have to listen to each hour and name of each message. The moms felt very 'one note'. The 'mystery' was kinda obvious... well, not bad, not bad

    Emotional To Say The Least

I’ve been meaning to read Radio Silence for a couple months now and I’m glad I waited to pick it up on audiobook. Radio Silence had me sobbing on my drive home today as the struggles of Frances and Aled hit so close to home. I was so happy that it wasn’t a love story and represented so many different communities.

Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. It was just ok.

First off, I want to say that I’m big on checking out reviews for books after I read them and I could only find 1 that agreed with me. So, clearly my opinion is not a very popular one. I found a few that seemed to agree with some opinions I had, but still rated it a 4 out of 5 because of how relatable it was for them. I did not find this relatable, and not because I haven’t gone through the things the characters deal with because I have. I simply felt no attachment to it at all, it wasn’t a great book, It was just ok. So, I will not rate this higher than a 3 and I feel like I’m being generous with a 3.

I went into this blind because of the amazing reviews it had received and felt that I couldn’t be disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high, because it never grabbed me and I found myself taking many breaks from it. In fact, the only time I was unable to stop listening was towards the end because I honestly just wanted to get it over with so I start something else. I even caught myself checking the time to see if it was almost over. The writing was a bit sloppy, I didn’t care for the main character Frances and it was way longer than it should have been. I just really did not enjoy this book. I think if it was a 90 minute movie I would’ve enjoyed it more, but instead I spent over 500 minutes wondering what all the hype was about.

If you’re looking for an ice breaker read and don’t want to put too much thought into something than throw on this audio book and check out the decent story, but in my opinion if you’re looking for something captivating then look somewhere else because you will not find that here.

British teen drama within pop social networks and fandom

It was worth a sale price listen, a little long, but entertaining. Topics of sexuality, love, and self worth among some British teens just trying to figure it all out. Kind of like frozen the love is deeper than just mates. Very fandom! Unique.

    My favorite book!!

I’ve listened to this book twice and eventually got a hard copy, unlike other people, I never got bored of this book, I like how leaned back it is and how you can visualize aled and frances friendship forming throughout this. Although the mystery was obvious, it was really mainly a secret for frances and her figuring it out and it was a small point in the big story of gaining trust just for it to fall and have to be gained back again. And the struggle over conflicts is so good! You can really hear Aleds story, he was my favorite in Heartstopper so this formed his character a lot more. I would suggest this book for anyone who wants a nice relaxed book that you can read on a rainy day.

    just wow

i am lost for words. i binged this in a day; it was that good. everything from the plot to the characters was perfect. my favorite par was definitely the characters: the way they were portrayed and described; there was this realness to them, they felt like real people; the way they were described in such detail, every little habit or pattern in their behavior was shown in the most subtle way possible which, like i said before, makes them so real and believable. each character is developed in a way that makes it seem like they have a life outside of advancing the plot like they are real people with real stuff going on even if they are only seen once in the entire story. the way the characters interact with each other and the world is just so well developed and so perfect (i’m really failing with adjectives right now).

i also really love the world building even thought places are not necessarily key points in the plot you get feel for the places that are around the characters that are often frequented or mention and it feels like it takes place in an actual place.

the plot is amazing and captivating but best part about this has got to be the emotion. the realness and rawness of it all how accurately and realistically different people express themselves in different ways weather but body language or speech or their actions.

i guess i should actually talk about the plot some. it takes its time developing the story without anything dragging on (honestly it’s just the perfect pace) to the point where it’s not something i thought about once while reading (with other books this bothers me a lot i am very important but like to savor things). the story has some mysterious and tense aspects that keep you on the edge of your seat, without being frustrating or too suspenseful. the story unfolds really nicely. and even though it develops well there are still turns in the plot and the story never fails to be interesting. as someone who is good at predicting plot outcomes form the begging i can say i had some fun suspecting some stuff but was never able to fully figure it out which kept the story satisfying.

i also think since i am reviewing an audiobook i should talk about the narrator. i personally really liked their voice. it’s crisp and clear without it being jarring. and it’s soothing without loosing your attention. i personally love the way they change their voice slightly for aled because i don’t think any other voice would work for him. their voice also works really well with frances.

i would definitely recommend this book and any other book by alice oseman to anyone (especially queer and ya/teen readers) as they are all beautifully written masterpieces.

    Alice Oseman you absolute goddess

This is one of the best books I've ever read, and the narration is excellent. Alice Oseman has a way of slowly getting you to care about her characters without you even realizing how attached you're getting, then traumatizing them, and you in the process. I was on the verge of tears for most of the back half of Radio Silence, and the narrator's voices were so expressive I could feel the emotion dripping off of every line. Absolutely stunning, thoroughly recommended.

    Phenomenal.

An absolutely phenomenal story. I hung on each word as if it were the last I would ever hear, navigated the intricacies of Aled and Frances’ life as if they were my own. Catalysts for the all too common fears and traumas of life in and beyond the high school years, and the inner turmoils of dealing with an emotionally abusive parental figure. A wonderfully delicate exploration of the alternatives to the societal norms of education thrust upon young people. I found myself longing, even at the age of 25, for that freedom of choice. The utter freedom of deciding one’s own future, and shaping your life to be what you desire it to be. Alice Oseman has, once again, breathed life into an overlooked, every increasing experience of youth and filled it with hope for a better tomorrow.

    Richtig gut!
