Description

The dentist was found with a blackened hole below his right temple. A pistol lay on the floor near his out flung right hand. Later, one of his patients was found dead from a lethal dose of local anaesthetic. A clear case of murder and suicide. But why would a dentist commit a crime in the middle of a busy day of appointments?

A shoe buckle holds the key to the mystery. Now - in the words of the rhyme - can Poirot pick up the sticks and lay them straight?

Does Agatha ever disappoint?

My listening habits have fallen into a pattern - an intense fantasy novel then an Agatha Christie to take a break. The reason: her novels are both charming and easy to read.
Like all of her novels this one keeps you guessing, I solved part of this one but couldn't connect the dots as well as our Poirot.

This one like 'And then there were none' follows the pattern of a poem. This one being 'one, two buckle my shoe.' Its little details like these that have made me fall in love with the author.

If you are not familiar with Christie this would be a good novel to start. Her books are not graphic or violent like many modern mysteries/thrillers, but have intricate plots and characters that keep you intrigued. For this reason I'd recommend this one.

Love my Christie!

Of Course I adore Hugh Frazier's reading. My discovery of lesser famous Christie stories through Audible is like finding special gems.

One of Christie's Best

I think this is one of the lesser known of the Hercule Poirot stories, but that's a shame. It has a nice twist and a good cast of characters. It's one of my favorites, and Fraser does a nice job reading it. He played Hastings, Poirot's sidekick, for many years and sometimes a little Hastings does slip in, but overall it's quite good and most of the time his Poirot sounds just like David Suchet's famous portrayal. But please enjoy the story for its own sake because it is very good.

Hugh Fraser's narration is superb

Any additional comments?

Excellent narration by Hugh Fraser, as always. This is not one of my favorite Christie stories. It starts jumping between a lot of characters which is hard to keep track of. The overall plot was just not as interesting as other Christie book.s

Good detective fiction

As always, Hugh Fraser is great. His Poirot voice is very much like Suchet's in the TV series, and Fraser's narrator voice is so calming. The plan is complicated, as usual in a Christie story. It was difficult to keep track of the characters and it was a bit slow in the middle, but the resolution is fascinating. I recommend this story as a relaxing read.

Always best

No one. Not anyone can write as Agatha Christie. Ms Christie writes without foul language or bloody morbidity, yet it's there.

One two buckle my shoe

Eventually, the reader begins to see something of a deterioration in Agatha Christie's writing. I have found it so in almost any author's writing. This story is well constucted. However, her Middle East mysteries are almost too challenging... Just thought I'd throw that in.
