    Description

A few weeks after marrying an attractive widow, Gordon Cloade is tragically killed by a bomb blast in the London blitz. Overnight, the former Mrs. Underhay finds herself in sole possession of the Cloade family fortune.

Shortly afterward, Hercule Poirot receives a visit from the dead man's sister-in-law who claims she has been warned by "spirits" that Mrs. Underhay's first husband is still alive. Poirot has his suspicions when he is asked to find a missing person guided only by the spirit world. Yet what mystifies Poirot most is the woman's true motive for approaching him.

    Yikers

Another problematic edition from Christie that has not stood the test of time. Two female characters say that women are asking to be sexually assaulted by military men returning home. Then, later in the book, one of the female characters says she only realized how much she loved a man as he was choking her. After listening to many of Christie's books, it's disappointing to see her repeated pattern of internalized sexism. She was definitely a product of a repressive time in history.

    Another great Agatha Christie mystery

This book is almost a stand alone as Poirot does not show up until about 3 hours into the audio book. Hugh Fraser reads very well, as always. I was totally unable to guess who the murderer was in this book.

    not the best Christie novel

This story is fascinating, but feels like the author changed her mind or just needed the book over. left us wondering what she was thinking. much weaker than many others of her pen.

Not the best of Dame Agatha

Great narration, as always, by Hugh Fraser, but a rather uninspired story from Agatha Christie. Hercule Poirot is almost an afterthought.

Not a Good Message to Be Delivering

What made the experience of listening to Taken at the Flood the most enjoyable?

Hugh Fraser is an amazing narrator and actor. He brings you into the story and keeps you there.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I REALLY did not like the message that the end of the story gave. I love Agatha Christie and in particular Hercule Poirot Mysteries. But in my opinion, her ending in this particular novel was a major societal faux pas. While it might have been accepted in days long past, it certainly isn't now.

Which character – as performed by Hugh Fraser – was your favorite?

    Hercule Poirot

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this book over a period of days.

Captivating but confusing at the end!

I’ve listen to the story twice and I do find the performance very entertaining and a good listen-(Very amusing at times too!)-however
At the end things get so twisted that you find yourself trying to catch up mentally as the story starts to spider in all kinds of directions!
Without spoiling the story ;the scene at the end between two of the main characters leaves a lot to be desired!
definitely the girl should re-think her relationship😬

-(That’s probably one of the main reasons for three stars !-that and the twist of events towards the end )-I’m used to getting my head spun a little at the end of every one of her mysteries -but this one seem to be especially aggravating.
I would still recommend it because I love listening to Hugh Fraser!

    one of Christie's best

Hugh Frasier gives another great performance of one of Agatha Christie's best stories. This story keeps you guessing to the end.

    Wonderful mystery and style

Great story set in 1948, unfolds beautifully under excellent narration. I loved it!

App says I need to "finish writing (?)" before it will accept my review ... so this is just filler.
