    Description

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author, Leylah Attar, comes a compelling, emotionally resonant new novel, set against the lush backdrop of the Serengeti.

Once in Africa, I kissed a king....

"And just like that, in an old red barn at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, I discovered the elusive magic I had only ever glimpsed between the pages of great love stories. It fluttered around me like a newborn butterfly and settled in a corner of my heart. I held my breath, afraid to exhale for fear it would slip out, never to be found again."

When a bomb explodes in a mall in East Africa, its aftershocks send two strangers on a collision course that neither one sees coming.

Jack Warden, a divorced coffee farmer in Tanzania, loses his only daughter. An ocean away, in the English countryside, Rodel Emerson loses her only sibling.

Two ordinary people, bound by a tragic afternoon, set out to achieve the extraordinary, as they make three stops to rescue three children across the vast plains of the Serengeti - children who are worth more dead than alive.

But even if they beat the odds, another challenge looms at the end of the line. Can they survive yet another loss - this time of a love that's bound to slip through their fingers, like the mists that dissipate in the light of the sun?

"Sometimes you come across a rainbow story-one that spans your heart. You might not be able to grasp it or hold on to it, but you can never be sorry for the color and magic it brought."

Mists of the Serengeti is inspired by true events and contains emotional triggers, including the death of a child.

    Mists of the Serengeti

I really didn’t know what to expect with this book I just knew that I loved Zachary Webber's narration and thought why not give it a shot.

I am blown away with both narrators; this story is heartbreaking, sweet, intriguing and again heartbreaking. I was sucked into the story, who wouldn’t be? It starts right away. It took me some time to get used to Megan Tusings’ narration but once I did I was hooked. I even went back and a few parts just so that I didn’t feel like I was missing anything.

This is a story of living after loss. But neither one knows it until too late it is bittersweet. It is also magical; the setting of this story draws you as much as the story does. I loved Jack’s grandmother.

What these two characters do for each other is something we all hope for, it’s the thread of life, hope, the forgiveness we all want. They understood each other in different ways but also in the same way. Understanding is sometimes all one can ask for, and with that can you heal.

I am still in awe of this book the ending broke me and gave me peace it’s weird to say that but it did. I will be looking for more books by this author and the new to me narrator Megan Tusing.

This book was very different from my normal taste. I enjoyed the setting of Tanzania, Africa and I also was very interested in the humanitarian side of this story, the political violence that started this story and the unlikely love story all in one. These two are brought together because of violence and grief and they really helped each other move forward. I think my favorite thing was the ending, I love that we get a flashback from before this book started and got closure for some questions I still had. The one thing I didn't really like was the lack of descriptions. I couldn't tell you what the characters looked like nor do I have much of a vision in my head of of the setting or places they were. I also couldn't wrap my head around Jack and how he was born in Tanzania but sounded and acted completely american?? It didn't effect the story line but I just like to imagine the people and places when I listen to a book.

The narration was GREAT!! Megan Tusing was amazing, she really brought Rodel to life! Zachary Webber was great as always, he always brings so much to his characters!

4.2 Stars - Very enjoyable and a very CR

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes!

    Any additional comments?

Mists of the Serengeti is mostly a low in (relationship-) angst and overall a nice pretty easygoing love story to just simply enjoy and keep reading. Of course there are some sadness, sad family losses and sudden death to start with, but it solves in its own ways. We end with dried tears, huge promising love and new chances. — Best of all; it is not a overly long, not a overly complicated or a overly steamy smexy romance book. But I got enough nice steam and heat to get the feel of a yummy romance.

Mists of the Serengeti let me with the feeling of kindhearted sweetness with two main characters and a couple of second characters to sincerely like and feel for. It also gave me some hours when I was hooked in a intriguing plot (“albino children mystery”) told with high speed suspense at times.

    My summary:
    • All in all a yummy good holiday read when you like me enjoy to spend time with nice heartwarming love stories.
    • This 12 hours audiobook is very well narrated by Zachary Webber and Megan Tusing.
    • Recommended for old fashion romantic girls and ladies ... actually all kind of fans of contemporary romances.

The story was beautifully written and perfectly narrated. I loved every minute, from the first sentence to the ironic end. Will definitely be reading more from this author.

    Brilliant, Outstanding.

I'm at a loss for words. All I can say is brilliant, outstanding. A wonderful story of survival. I was hooked from the first page. Not only by the characters but also by the story line. Hard to listen to at some points yet so wonderful in others. Truly enjoyed it more than words can express. 5 stars by far.

    WOW! Amazing storyline & narrators!

Jack is excited to be spending the day with his daughter Lily, especially because since his divorce his ex-wife moved thousands of miles away from his coffee plantation in Tanzania.

Lily is grilling him to make sure that he records her recital. His eight-year-old daughter loves to replay her dance for him and his grandmother making them vote on her performance. Making them revote over and over until she receives the 10s she is looking for.

After delivering her to the recital hall located in the local mall he realizes that Lily is still holding the pink balloons and heads back to the parking lot to leave them in the car. As he turns back to return inside he hears the crack of machine guns and fights the outgoing crowd in order to get to his daughter.

Then he sees a toddler all alone and his pregnant mother on the ground begging for help. He is torn. He needs to get to his daughter, but he can't leave this woman and child to be further injured or worse. Just as he turns to run back into the mall there is an explosion. A bomb just went off decimating the mall. Helping this mom and child cost his daughter's life.

Rodell was signing her name to purchase her first home. Never staying in one place as a child she just wanted a place to call home. She is sitting in a local bar celebrating when a newsflash crosses the large TV over the bar. Then she starts frantically looking for her phone because her sister is in that town.

She finds her phone and realizes that she missed a call from her sister and was devastated when she listened to the message. Her sister was at the mall under fire and was telling her that in case she didn't make it how much she loved her and their parents.

In the coming days, all she could find out was that there had been a car bomb. When she finally decided to go through her sister's belongings she found the reason she had been in Tanzania. She traveled the Serangeti to rescue disadvantaged children and get them to an orphanage.

Rodel was on break from teaching and grabbed her sister's map covered in notes, packed her bags and left England to find the children listed on her sisters notes and get them to safety.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This book is narrated by Zachary Webber & Megan Tusing and they are perfect in portraying the horror and emotions of this story.

The narration was done differently than other audiobooks wherein Jack's (Zachary Webber) POV is the first and last chapters of the story and Rodel's (Megan Tusing) POV is the major POV in the storyline.

This book is action packed and full of danger and suspense from page one. Jack is a bitter angry man full of self hate and guilt that he put someone else before his daughter and he had no interest in helping Rodel on her mission to rescue children that were being kidnapped and killed because of superstition.

This book is full of twists and the ending is both heartbreaking but it gives answers to a mystery, but then there is a "what if" moment although you know in your heart its not to be.

This is the first time reading Leylah Attar and I was totally enthralled with this storyline. Even through their mutual loses their journey of danger frees them from the past. Zachary Webber & Megan Tusing were perfect narrators. Zachary with his sexy voice and Megan with her English accent.

Highly recommend this book, author and narrators! This storyline is movie worthy and I can't wait to read more by Leylah Attar in the future!

    Beautiful Story

Mists of the Serengeti is my first exposure to Leylah Attar's writing, and she's a phenomenal writer and storyteller. I can't wait to start her back catalog.

Mists of the Serengeti is one of the best stories I've read in a long time. It will shred your heart as you realize the tragedy unfolding one page at a time, but it is so worth it.

I felt Jack and Rodel's loss and despair. I traveled and got lost with them as they embarked on a journey, as Megan Tusing vividly narrated from Rodel's POV.

I laughed and felt joy as some wonderfully funny characters, such as Goma and Bahati, brought humor when I needed it. And, as Jack fell for Ro, I fell for them. Likewise, Zachary Webber was outstanding as a single father, broken and struggling with the senseless loss of his daughter.

I don't want to give much away, but this story will stay with me for a long time.

    5 Rainbow Stars! ❤

Having read Ms.Attar's work before i've been wanting to pick up this story for quite some time now. As soon as i found out about the audiobook i knew it'd be the perfect chance to do so! I started listening to Mists of The Serengeti as soon as i could and was completely captivated by this audiobook! I loved this audiobook so much!

I've listened to Zachary Webber's narration before, but this was my first time listening to Megan Tusing! I was so happy that these two were narrating this story! Megan captured Rodel and Zachary captured Jack, both so perfectly. From the way their voices helped me picture certain scenes so vividly in my mind to how their narration truly got me right in the chest, I adored what Megan and Zachary brought to this story!

Rodel and Jack's journey hooked me so very completely! Sometimes you come across a story that truly gets to you and theirs did exactly that for me. As life leads these two to cross paths, i couldn't wait to see how everything would play out for them!

Rodel and Jack's journey was so very realistic to me. There was such humanness to these two and i fell in love with them and their story. I found myself relating to both of them throughout this listen. I was so glad that i got to dig deeper with them. There was so much heart to both Rodel and Jack. I felt such a range of emotions while listening to this audiobook!

    Breathtaking!

A fantastic book with a heartbreaking epilogue that will allow you to leave the story without wondering about any of the figures remain. I loved every moment of it!
