Description
My name is Michael Vey, and the story I'm about to tell you is strange. Very strange. It's my story."
To everyone at Meridian High School, Michael Vey is an ordinary 14-year-old. In fact, the only thing that seems to set him apart is the fact that he has Tourette's syndrome. But Michael is anything but ordinary. Michael has special powers. Electric powers.
Michael thinks he's unique until he discovers that a cheerleader named Taylor also has special powers. With the help of Michael's friend, Ostin, the three of them set out to discover how Michael and Taylor ended up this way, but their investigation brings them to the attention of a powerful group who wants to control the electric children - and through them, the world. Michael will have to rely on his wits, powers, and friends if he's to survive.

young adult novel..
Had I read the synopsis more carefully I would have realized this was a young adults novel. Having said that ( as I'm an old dude ) I was impressed by the narration. It was well time and delivered. The plot, while juvenile, has good depth and pacing. I will definitely recommend this to my teenage sons.

Your never too old to enjoy a good story
I'm almost embarrassed to admit I not only listened to but really enjoyed this book seeing as it's classified in the young adult genre. I'm 42 and the father of a 12 year old but I couldn't put it down. The story itself is gripping (don't we all wish we had super powers?) and the action is nicely paced. The character development, which is normally lacking in an action novel, was just enough. The narrator was terrific. It's obvious this story will draw comparisons to the TV series Heroes, and I agree with that comparison. I can only assume this story was conceived by the author long before the TV show otherwise I'd be a little disappointed with the "save the cheerleader, save the world" aspect of the Michael Vey story. Surely Mr. Evans could have been more original. But be that as it may, Mr. Evans is on to something. Clearly this will be a multi-volume work and if the first book is any indication, this will be a very popular series. Give it a try. I'll bet you like it and if not, your teenagers certainly will.

Twilight for the next generation
As an adult I found this 1st installment of the Michael Vey books to be a little on the fanciful side, but with the innocence of youth, this series of books will travel down the same roads as Twilight and Harry Potter. From the strenght of the Michael Vey character to the comedic sidekick Austin, this series will be one I own. My only regret is that these books will only come once a year.

Not bad... Not bad at all
The book starts off fairly slow, but by the end you won't want to stop listening. The characters were well developed, the plot was sound, and I had no issue with the narration. I listened to it with my 12 year old daughter and she loved it. She said wanted to READ the book, and enjoy it a second time. Overall it's a good beginning for, what seems will be, a great series.

Great thriller excellent narator !
This could become the the answer to Harry Potter. No withchcraft, no Vampires but plenty misterious powers. Faced with pear presure what will it take to make the right decission!
Wife and I listened to in in one day!

Caught me and kept me!!!
A great book...I can write that confidently even though I am only 1/2 way thru it...I have not listened to a book that held my attention this closely for a very long time...I listen while I am doing other things because I dont have time to just sit and read anymore...I often have to 'rewind' because I became distracted and missed so much...That was not the case with this book. It is not the great novel of the century but is a wonderful pleasure read. It has some obvious parallels to Riordan's Percy Jackson series but stands on its own quite well. I have already looked for other books by Richard Evans. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the Percy Jackson series or other Riordan books...I am Number Four...Divergent...Michael Scotts Alchemist series...or Simon Bloom. I am certainly not the target audience but I have an 11 year old avid reader, and I like to know what she is reading...This will definitely become one of her favorites (her other favorites are listed above) it gets a strong A in my opinion.

Decent Crossover Teen Novel
Listed to this and was not excited, but not disappointed. Interesting story, a little different than the Twilight vein; nice to read something a little off the beaten-path. Interesting premise, likeable characters. The best friend was a little irritating; author tried to hard to create the funny, nerdy friend. All-in-all a fairly satisfying listen.

DO NOT GET IF YOUR 20+
FYI, this is a multiple part series and at this time, no sequels are out. I think I knew this was written for teens going into it, but I like biological thrillers where people aren't normal and have powers. As a 35 year old, I told myself I could deal with the teen drama if the story was interesting enough. It really wasn't. When obvious and stupid decision came up, I had to constantly remind myself that the protagonist is 15 yrs old. The main characters are okay and believable, but the narrator does a bad job of trying to sound like a 15 yr old guy. Most of the characters are that type and it is annoying to hear constant city-boy accent like I used to talk in the 80's..."dude". The antagonist was uninteresting. SPOILER: One thing that really bothered me was when the boy signed a contract with the bad guy and the bad guy promised to let the boys friends go and he could call them when they were on the road, and when the contract is signed, he marches the boy into a cell to kill one of his friends and he doesn't question the bad guys promise or even mention it. I think the nail in the proverbial coffin was that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IMPORTANT HAPPENS IN CELL 25! Yes, about 10 minutes of the book was spent in that cell and nothing was in there but a toilet. This is almost false advertising to me. I thought some hinge to the story or unexpected character, like the dad, would have been in there...nothing. very disappointing. I thought some clue to the boys past was in cell 25...nothing. I hope this helps someone...

Good story for adults, GREAT for youth
I found Michael Vey: the Prisoner of Cell 25 entertaining, but not a compelling book which I'll recommend to my friends. I would recommend the book for a teenager though. Interesting story while exemplifying great morals.
