Description
The kids are the least of our worries.
Seriously. If that sounds blasphemous in a book for concerned parents and educators (and anyone, really, who worries about "kids these days"), then I am so glad you're here. If you have a kid, work with a kid, or love a kid, you will find something inspiring in this audiobook. Dare I say, game-changing.
These words were born from the hundreds of stories of kids, their families, and their support systems I was lucky to meet as I worked across Canada and the USA. Regardless of who I met or where I met them, the message was always the same: Our kids are okay only if those of us holding them are okay.
During the developmental years, schools and educators are the most significant connection point to almost every child on this continent. But are the educators okay? I believe that most of the great educators want to make a difference. Many tell me, however, that they are finding it more and more difficult these days to love what they do. I think it's time we did a better job of looking after them first. Plain and simple, this book is for the educators: our teachers, bus drivers, administrators, educational assistants, librarians, administrative assistants, and custodians. And anyone who leads, loves, and supports them.
Plus just for you, I recorded a little bonus chapter filled with thoughts and ideas about the future and our next steps in this journey to create a more connected world.
I am so grateful you are here to listen to these words.

The connection I needed...
I can’t recommend this book enough to educators! Joy’s “message of connection” was something I didn’t even know I needed but so grateful to have been given. I was put onto Joy Carrington by a fellow educator and all I want to do is pay that favor onto anyone who is interested. I’ve been an educator for 12 years and I feel refreshed and ready for a new school year, no matter how that is suppose to look during a pandemic. Listen on, you won’t regret it!

MUST READ for all Teachers
As an elementary educator, I enjoy fitting in some "professional development" books into my routine. A friend recommended I checked out Jody's book, and I was blown away immediately. I am so glad I bought the audiobook version instead of the paperback as well. Jody is so relatable, but her knowledge and stories allow me to reflect upon myself, my students, and our world throughout the entire book.
It's entertaining, insightful, and educational without being mundane or dry. Kids These Days is a MUST READ for anyone that works with our children.

Excellent Compilation of Ideas
The book provided a compilation of theories and ideas about relational capacity from well-known researchers and authors. The author provided an entertaining read aloud, and it felt like you could hear her passion for working with the people that struggle the most.

Amazing and timely
As a teacher, I am blown away by how seen I feel after listening to this audiobook. Dr. Carrington understands educators and the struggles, especially regarding trauma, in our profession. Her outlook on loving children and taking care of our teachers is just what I needed to hear. To quote her, “this holy work”. Thank you for the reminder, Dr. Carrington! I’m on to Teachers These Days.
