Commentaires

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

It Works!

Contrary to what one might expect, Japanese in many ways is not difficult: there are basically no verb conjugations, no plurals and no gender markers.

Of course, the vocabulary is completely different. Even words borrowed from English are transformed, for instance « depato » for department store or « kombini » for convenience store.

The Pimsleur method is strictly oral and is based on interaction and repetition.

It works wonderfully well to acquire the fundamentals of the Japanese language and is warmly recommended.

Much Easier Learning

While the first volume does have a bit on & on about the Pimleur's technique of learning, I must say it did seem more effective, easier to learn than other language books I've tried to read. While its the first volume, I must say I did come away with some understanding. Not bad for a first go of it!

Good Language Learning

I really like the Pimsleur language learning products. As a French teacher myself, I know the work it took to master another language and what techniques work to help students build skills. They are absolutely right when they say that it is about functional sentences useful in real situations. It is also about oral skills, not written grammar tests. I like that they also don't just have you repeat - they explain what each part of a phrase means as well, which allows you to adjust the sentence accordingly with other vocabulary. For example, they teach you "Are you American?" "Yes, I am American." I am Canadian. I looked up the word for "Canadian" and could practice the sentence that I would use on my own ("Are you American?" "No, I am Canadian.") knowing that the structure was correct. It also helped to hear two different speakers, one male and one female, to make it easier for me to pronounce things correctly. A 30-minute lesson is enough to absorb at one time - you need to really think to keep track and you might need to do it twice, but it isn't too intense.

Note that the free download is just for the first lesson, about 30 minutes. On Audible they have Phase 1 units 1-30 split by 1-5, 6-10, etc. for one credit each or as 1-30 for 5 credits. Same deal with the more advanced Phases 2 and 3. Don't expect a full 30 lessons for free! But this is a great way to see if you like the way the lessons work and if you want to learn more of this particular language.

Ganbatte! ^o^/

I studied Japanese briefly in college but have always had trouble with speaking and hearing it. Pimsleur has helped me understand and practice better, so I'm glad to be able to get it on Audible and take my lessons with me everywhere!

It can seem a little dry at times and is very repetitious, but don't let it deter you. After all, that's how we learn!

18 out of the 27 minutes is talking about Pimsleur method. So there's not very much to learn here

Not for Intermediate Learners

This is great for absolute begginers. Plenty of repetition to reinforce the vocabulary. Only major problem I can see is the lack of discussion and explanation of grammar points involved.

Sixteen minutes of explanation...

Okay, you will learn about five sentences of Japanese. They are: Excuse me? Do you understand English? No, I don't understand, Do you understand Japanese? Yes, a little. Are you American? Yes, I am American. This is NOT a whole lot of information. There are better courses out there..

Nice and enlightening introduction to this method

Very nice, complex and useful introduction to this language learning method with an example lesson to get a first impression of how the lessons are structured.

The "Story" is something what is probable to be encountered in reality and the prononciation of the speakers is clear.

I like it a lot - particularly for a language as hard to learn as Japanese.

I'm sure I'll get the full lessons step by step and see how well I can progress in this. It's pretty awesome, that this is available here on Audible.

Sehr effektiv :)

Die erste Lektion hat Spaß gemacht. Ich werde mir auch die anderen Lektionen kaufen. Sehr angenehme Sprecher. Guter Lernerfolg nach kurzer Zeit .
