 Himeji Castle in Hyogo Prefecture, with its white outer walls, has the largest tower of any castle in Japan.

兵庫県にある姫路城は、白亜の外壁、日本に現存する最大の天守を備えた城です。城の形が空を舞う白鷺のように見えることから「白鷺城」とも呼ばれています。
最初は小さな城でしたが、拡張工事を繰り返し、1617年に現在の姿になりました。完成までに2400万人がかかわったという記録も残っています。
姫路城の主要な建造物はすべて木造で、建築様式や設計技術、装飾の美しさは日本の城郭建築の最高峰です。
戦いや火災に一度も巻き込まれることなく、完成当時の姿を保っているのは、奇跡といわれます。
これらの理由から、姫路城は1993年に世界遺産に登録されました。
