Description

In the explosive finale to New York Times best-selling author Jeaniene Frost's Night Prince series, Vlad is in danger of losing his bride to an enemy whose powers might prove greater than the Prince of Vampires'. In the wrong hands, love can be a deadly weapon.

For nearly 600 years, Vlad Tepesh cared for nothing, so he had nothing to lose. His brutal reputation ensured that all but the most foolhardy stayed away. Now, falling in love with Leila has put him at the mercy of his passions. And one adversary has found a devastating way to use Vlad's new bride against him.

A powerful spell links Leila to the necromancer Mircea. If he suffers or dies, so does she. Magic is forbidden to vampires, so Vlad and Leila enlist an unlikely guide as they search for a way to break the spell. But an ancient enemy lies in wait, capable of turning Vlad and Leila's closest friends against them and finally tearing the lovers apart forever.

Kinda Disappointed

I was a bit disappointed in this story. I don't feel like Vlad had much growth and the "female bows down to her alpha male" became grating and I never thought so before on the other books in the series. I get Vlad has been alive for centuries and he's set in his ways, but having Layla meet him way more than halfway over and over, and all the excuses made for him hiding things that were suddenly "okay and understood" was ridiculous. The story was decent, but by the end I was ready for it to be over. The narrator was really good, but the book continually declined for me as it went on.

Really good conclusion to the series :D

4-4.5 stars

This was a really good story and conclusion to the series. I will say that I still love Vlad and Leila and I was so happy to see how things turned out for them.

Frost certainly came up with some twists in this story and there were a few moments when I was stunned and sure that what I read had to be a trick of some sort. Cat and Bones don't make an appearance in this story but Mencheres and Ian both do and there's a pretty serious setup for Ian's book (and maybe even a hint of who Ian ends up with...) that certainly perked my interest. Vlad and Leila were still great together, persevering even when things go off-kilter (particularly when Vlad over-steps things a bit). My only complaint was that the story seemed to falter slightly in the bad guy area (and maybe the Gretchen situation). When Szilagyi died at the end of book #3, I was happy that he was finally gone but Mircea wasn't a very good replacement, especially considering how his circumstances changed almost immediately. We're left with a somewhat unknown bad guy situation and a bit of confusion of what the heck was happening and who was trying to pull who's strings. The strings were still being pulled so don't think there was a lack of baddies doing stuff that caused Vlad and Leila drama and danger...there definitely was.

Regardless of the confusion over the bad guy situation, Leila, Vlad and their friends manage to work things out by the end, allowing them to proceed to a (hopefully less eventful) HEA together. The characters are still great and really sucked me into the story. The story was quick paced, interesting and kept me well engaged throughout....I'd definitely recommend the series. :D

I was disappointed

After waiting so long for this book, I have to say I was disappointed. I know Vlad is an angry dude but it just got to be too much with him constantly pissed off. Thank God for Ian. In my opinion, Ian was the only saving grace. And this is the first time Tavia Gilbert's narration got on my nerves...but I think that was due to Vlad's pissiness and Layla's ... well, I dont even know, but I found Layla annoying.

Ian hijacked Vlad & Leila's HEA

What should have been a fiery finish to Jeaniene Frost’s NIGHT PRINCE series was a bit of a dud. INTO THE FIRE was all about Ian which made Vlad & Leila the protagonists of this story in name only. Per an FAQ on the author’s website, there’s a spin-off in the works for the former, and I get the need to propagate that message, but this could have been done in a more tasteful manner rather than hijacking Dracula’s happily-ever-after.

I still got a fair amount of enjoyment out of this novel including some good laughs. We learn about the origins of the heroine’s powers, and Mencheres makes an appearance, although the shock factor in relation to his character was a bit of a joke because I didn’t believe for one second that that thing that happened actually did, there’s just no way. That being said, I did get a kick out of the male cast sprouting boobs and totally owning their glamoured disguises.

Vlad & Leila’s fairy tale ending lacked passion—the token sex scene notwithstanding—there were too many secrets between them for a couple who’s supposedly embracing forever together, and the resolution vis-à-vis Mircea was so corny. Frost could have made this into a killer trilogy, but instead book 4 came along, and crapped the bed. This is the lowest rating that I’ve ever given something that was written by this author, and it really makes me sad.

I pre-ordered this audio months before its release because Tavia Gilbert is an experienced narrator whose familiarity with this universe and its inhabitants is beyond measure. She reads Dracula’s parts well without falling into the stereotypical trap that would be all too easy to adopt, and the energy that she brings to the love making bits will leave you blushing and a little jealous. Her voice was the saving grace of this audiobook.

INTO THE FIRE is where your paperback copy should go. However, if you really must, listen instead.

Meh

Ok I normally love every book in this series and all the Night Huntress spin offs. This one however just had me confused. All of a sudden Ian has magical powers and knows how to cast spells? I would have been more into it had a even a hint of this been in the original series somewhere. I just couldn't get fully immersed into it. The first 2 I enjoyed a lot. This one...not so much. It was a bit to confusing to me.

It was okay....

The overall story was great and the performance was great; however, I think I've grown out of the whole female adult acting like a complete child in the middle of every crisis. Sigh.... I still love the Characters (Vlad, Ian, Marty, Maximus, plus characters from the original series...Mancheres, Cat, Bones, Marie etc).

Great ending

I love this series not just because it's about my favorite vampire, but I love the characters and the journey. This is a tragic and beautiful love story between two people that fate needed to bring together.
I finally see Ian in his own book and Maximus too. I can't wait.

Meh

Except for the surprise near the end of the book....the writing is corny. There is waaaaay too much internal dialogue and predictable lines. I found myself groaning out loud at some of the conversations between Leila and Vlad. On the whole I really like this series and have reread many of the books multiple times. This one missed the mark. The best part of this book is the possibility of a spin-off with Ian and the law guardian.

Were Leila and Vlad always this terrible?

I listened to this book mostly in shock. I don't know if they've become extra awful or if I just didn't realize their true natures, but these people (vampire people) were jerks. They believed that being in love justified whatever they decided to do. Nobody outside their little bubble of two was safe. I don't even want to guess this book's body count. It's a good thing that this was the final book in the seeie because I was done with these hypocritical sociopaths regardless. Also, while I normally love Tavia Gilbert, her narration did nothing for me this time out. This book didn't work for me on any level.

SOB SOB.. PARTING IS SUCH SWEET SORROW

Three days!!.. that's all it took for this new addition to the Night Prince series to become an Audible Bestseller.. and for it to get 132 5 star ratings (not including mine).. and there's no wonder as Vlad and Leila face their final battle before getting their HEA ending. Every chapter gripped me as JF weaved a tense tale which included vampires, necromancers, demons, a law guardian, witches, revenge, death, tears, magic, romance, sex, twists.. and Vlad had to re-live his worst day - which nearly ended up killing the love of his life.

It was jam-packed with supernatural suspense and JF has used Tavia Gilbert to narrate all of her books and there's no wonder - she brings to life a multitude of characters, injects the storyline with all the right feels and her talented voice manages dialects, genders and paranormal entities with ease.

Worth a credit? Yes - This has got to be the best in the series and it's sad that it's ended.. but I wonder what fantasy she's going to entertain us with next?

Night Prince 4 - Into the Fire
