    Description

Game of Thrones meets Graceling in this thrilling fantasy filled with shocking twists and heart-pounding action, the highly anticipated sequel to Snow Like Ashes.

It's been three months since the Winterians were freed and Spring's king, Angra, disappeared - thanks largely to the help of Cordell.

Meira just wants her people to be safe. When Cordellan debt forces the Winterians to dig their mines for payment, they unearth something powerful and possibly dangerous: Primoria's lost chasm of magic. Theron sees this find as an opportunity - with this much magic, the world can finally stand against threats like Angra. But Meira fears the danger the chasm poses - the last time the world had access to so much magic, it spawned the Decay. So when the king of Cordell orders the two on a mission across the kingdoms of Primoria to discover the chasm's secrets, Meira plans on using the trip to garner support to keep the chasm shut and Winter safe - even if it means clashing with Theron. But can she do so without endangering the people she loves?

Mather just wants to be free. The horrors inflicted on the Winterians hang fresh and raw in Jannuari - leaving Winter vulnerable to Cordell's growing oppression. When Meira leaves to search for allies, he decides to take Winter's security into his own hands. Can he rebuild his broken kingdom and protect them from new threats?

As the web of power and deception is woven tighter, Theron fights for magic, Mather fights for freedom - and Meira starts to wonder if she should be fighting not just for Winter but for the world.

    Disappointing sequel

The story centers around the insecurity of the main character and her stupidity. The first book was good; I just wish the sequel was too.

    Horrible second installment!!!

The main character who was so bold and powerful in the first book has been utterly destroyed by her own author in this disappointing continuation. All the traits and personalities that gave this story it's tantalizingly adventurous, page turning allure and depth were betrayed and lay waste. The characters, particularly the main characters have suddenly become weak, indecisive, and ineffective throughout. None of them can make even the simplest decisions. Meira doesn't pursue the largest clue let alone the smallest, even though she is on the most important mission of her life. She take NO precautions, NO protection, and has NO proactive actions for what is happening to herself and her people all around her. In the end she walks into a battle with her very small band of allies and let's them be picked off while she just stands there, without even attempting to use her powerful magic or even her fists. Almost the entirety of this book is her own mental ramblings which lead her no where and lend no advise or problem solving at all. Frustrating, since you expect her to at least be some part of that strong, wanna be proven, warrior from the first book. ! I think this story should have been either thought out better or concluded in this book, saving this author from character suicide. Just a thought, Ms. Raasch, if Meira doesn't win any of the battles during the whole book, she starts looking too pathetic and it's not an enjoyable story! On a positive note, the narration was excellent!!! I wish I could give separate feed back on that. I'm sure some of the bad decisions made by the characters must have been difficult to read. I know I sat here reading this book frowning and cringing the entire time so hats off to them both.

    Hard to finish

The narrator did what she could with what she had but the book was hard to get through. The first was so much better.

the stakes are higher than ever now!

Super fun book. Definitely felt like a middle of a trilogy book but wasn't bored by the plot development and enjoyed visiting the other kingdoms.

    Great story and naration

The story started out slow, but really picked up at the end. I enjoyed the first book much more though. The narration was great! Kate Rudd is my favorite narrator and the reason I came across this series. I enjoyed listening to Nick Podehl, he has a great voice and gives life to Marther.

    Cold as ice

When I first started this series I hated it but now I love It. Taught trust , patience, forgiveness and Hope . I highly recommend this wholeSeries , but you have to read the whole series . After, the first book I was surprised that there was a second book because I did not think they needed one but, I was wrong. These books are very good

    Ice Like Fire Book Review

I had so many emotions brewing within me while reading this novel. It is an excellent continuation to Snow Like Ashes. In this novel, I was genuinely angered. I could not handle the injustice the Winterians were under. I wanted justice for Meira and her people. Those emotions and concern caused me to continue and learn more of Miera and the fate of her people.

I had concerns and felt that something was not going to go in Meira's favor in the beginning of the novel. Meira wants her people to be safe. However, I knew that something was not going to go her way and she was going to run into some really bad obstacles. Raasch takes the reader on Meira's journey for justice. I was fascinated with the journey and the descriptions of the kingdoms Meira visits.

By the end of this novel, I knew something big is coming in the third and final part in this series. The ending is satisfying enough but did not give me closer. The finale of Ice Like Fire left me wanting more, so I, of course, had to get the final part in this series, Frost Like Night. I am anxious to see what Raasch has in store for these characters!

    Audible Review:

Rudd returns to narrate the second part of this series and does an excellent job. However in this novel, she is joined by Podehl, and the change from the first novel to this one gives the listening experience a new flavor. For those of us who like to multitask and listen on the go, I recommend listening at a 1.5 speed, so one does not miss anything. For those who are listening while reading the book, I found 2.0 and 2.5 speed to be the best speeds. 3.0 was too fast for me, and I was missing a lot of what the narrator was saying and had to eventually slow down the narrator's reading speed.
