    Description

Condemned to die upon the sands.

I have been sentenced to death for the crime of being born; of winning the Hasran's war for them. But my death has purchased the freedom of my people, and so I go to it gladly, ready for whatever final torture they might have in mind.

The Imperator has decreed that I will be sacrificed in the Great Games, a sacred ritual that will magically empower the Gateway Arena. It requires five god-souled, the reincarnations of gods, divine shards that can be fed to the Arena, and used to increase its size.

It means my life has narrowed to one purpose: live. Each day I train, and each week I fight harder and harder challenges until I die. For there is no escape, no reprieve. Once the ritual begins it can only end with my death.

    Awesome

Always great work by Chris Fox and Ryan Kennard Burke!! Epic fantasy with a story that ties into all of his other series. Xal is becoming a GOD!

    Meh It's OK

I didn't like the whole arena sequence; it was too drawn out. In my opinion it was just a filler and the book really didn't start till halfway. I found myself skipping ahead over and over hoping something would happen to make it interesting.

Overall, this book compared to the previous in the series to me was a disappointment.

    Kinda of ‘

This book was more filler then filling and the ending was ok but does not leave a really good reason to keep going . Some of characters voices sounded to similar and you can tell the narrator was not really into it maybe distracted?

    it feels off

it feels like this book is in the wrong series like the author decided that he didn’t like the way it was going and did a table flip and started new…… it’s his choice but he’s doing some odd things in the third book.

Let’s take the love interest from the previous books. Did it feel like it ended the relationship in that book you? No? Yeah me too but she’s nowhere to be seeing? her boyfriend just gets up and sold to slavery does she care nope But that felt more like the author forced her out then it actual happened in the flow of the story. So how to lighten the blow?? Random hot librarian? Ok it seems a little rushed and forced but maybe she will stick around and be a big part of the books from here on out. What do you mean she just pieced out in the middle of the story. ok ok Maybe it was just so the other love interest can come back in?No? Random summoned wife. wtf? What is she doing the book? nothing? Was that just randomly forced in? it has no bearing on the story but As a warning to the reader not to get attached anyone romantic love interest because he can’t write it ….. Ok got it …. As a reader I care more for the mute girl than I do for then his supposed wife and I don’t think that will change.
And I can say is God I hope he doesn’t try and villainize the other girls just to make the new one look better.

As for the antagonist of the book I feel it would’ve been better if most of the chapters that involved the him were just cut out. It was just boring and the more time spent on them and wasn’t doing him any favors. He was essentially a side boss of a much smaller side boss. I wouldn’t have minded it so much if he was smart and doing evil thing. But he Not and he was just petty thing. Am I supposed to any thing besides annoyance when ever he shows up? he was here for to long and not doing anything.

I missed the deathless series. and I will buy the next book.

    So Enjoyable

This book was very enjoyable. I loved the two previous books. I really loved this one, though. This book is my favorite out of the three books I've listened to. Xal is turning into a force to be reckoned with. I 100% recommend this book if you liked book two.

    God of the fiction

Absolutely love Chris Fox's writing and wish he was my DM in D&D. I first discovered him by reading his void wraith saga and fell in love. Once I completed all his books in that series I decided I'd try his fantasy series. I don't normally like fantasy (or at least that's what I told myself) but I very quickly fell in love with the characters and story line. Ryan Burke's reading is always entertaining as well, he does a great job capturing the essence of each character and coming up with different voices for each (loved Gak). Can't wait for the next one!
